Does anyone else see where Blaser saw an out here?

(caveat: I'm not ripping him, I'm asking a question ...he saw something to call the out) ....  typically, this is a super-routine 'safe' ...

I was at this game so I saw it in real time then over and over on the big screen. The whole place including Cub fans was shocked at the initial safe call. On replay it was closer then I thought. Trumbo kind of popped up into a high throw. U2 was in good position, (maybe a bit late getting set up?). This is a good use of replay to correct an obviously bad call.

There have been a few plays this year where runners were initially safe, momentarily came off the bag/tagged, and the umpires missing them. I'll bet the umpires were embarassed by the IR review reversal. I can only guess that U2 thought that R1/2 was tagged off the bag.

Before this year, I doubt he would have had an out. Another unintended consequence of IR reviews.

I don't know anything about 4 man mechanics but it seemed like U2 was not set to make the call. Prior to the steal attempt I was thinking it was unlikely Trumbo would be going. It was close and late but given his injury history I was a bit surprised. F1 made a half hearted pick off. Then Trumbo went first move and I was thinking the lefty F1 could have picked behind him. Did U2 have to hold position to see if F1 would throw to F3? Is it possible he was caught off guard by the early break?
