Question on Mechanics on this play: If he interferes while the ball is still in the air, why does he not call him out immediately.  Interference is not a delayed dead ball in this case, right?

This is runner INT on a fielder who is fielding a batted ball. The ball is dead, the runner is out, and other runners return.

That's the rule. The mechanic is to kill it once we process the play. It's an unusual instance of runner INT, which we usually see in the middle infield somewhere.

Diaz took an extra beat to process it, then made his ruling. I have no problem with that: since you can't unring the bell, make sure your call is right. We're still getting the out and putting runners back, and the extra beat doesn't change anything.
