PU says, "No --- didn't go."

DC says, "Did he go Blue?"

PU appeals to me as U1 and I say no with a safe sign.

 

DC jumps up and sprints out of the dugout toward me.

 

Before I say how, how is this to be handled in FED.

Option (a) -- you should have said "yes he did"

 

Option (b) -- "coach if you come out running you can keep on running right to the bus"

You handled the appeal on the swing just fine, now tell us how you handled the coach.

I don't think FED has an actual rule prohibiting this as OBR and NCAA do. But you really don't need a rule to take whatever action you took.

I did precisely as Scrounge alluded to.

He did, as he mumbled, "I'm not arguing balls and strikes" which seems to be the common misconception with HS coaches.

 

They don't follow that arguing or even objecting to a check swing decision is ... wait for it ... arguing balls and strikes.

 

He told me between games he didn't realize he couldn't come out of the dugout.

He didn't realize asking for clarification on a check swing was perceived as arguing balls and strikes.

Really???

 

I told him in college that's an automatic EJ, and while we don't have the same rule here, we typically restrict to the dugout.

 

Less than 10% of the officials in my association would handle it this way.

90% would let them bitch.  It's just wrong.

Flyer, this is a high school coach? Must be a JV volunteer, because ALL the HS coaches out here know that you can't come charging out of the dugout like Earl Weaver and expect to stay in the game. Not possible. It's a virtual automatic ejection, no stop signs, warnings or restrictions.

It's a common claim.  I usually let them say this, then correct it before I eject (but if he's charging at me ....)

He's a HS Varsity Coach either playing dumb like a fox, or just ... dumb ...

I did have a bit of respect for him last season when I ejected his best player and he wrestled the kid off the field.

All in all, a good guy.
