Think about it. How many defensive teams will take the out along w/ the warning.

"We just got an out by cheating" and all he did was warn me.

Any coach w/ half a brain will take that all day.

Wonder if this was the type balk being discussed here and if so was he warned, or was it another type balk. Either way, time to go.

Wonder if there's a clip of this one anywhere?

Don't know, but things got a little testy in Texas yesterday also, and it wasn't a balk.

Michigan State vs. TCU

Umpires - HP: John Brammer 1B: AJ Wendel 2B: Don Maher 3B: John Ausmus

Start: 6:35 Time: 2:36 Attendance: 3126

Weather: Clear skies, windy and warm Game notes: MSU head coach Jake Boss, Jr. ejected with 1 out in the bottom of the 6th.

Here is the bottom of the 6th play by play. Several things may have caused it. Double down the line (how close to the line), one of the fielder's choices. Whatever.

TCU 6th - White doubled down the lf line (2-0 BB). Odell grounded out to 1b unassisted (0-0); White advanced to third. Cron struck out swinging, reached first on a throwing error by c (1-2 KSB). Castellano reached on a fielder's choice, RBI (1-0 B); Cron out at second ss to 2b; White scored, unearned. Jones reached on a fielder's choice (2-1 BKB); Castellano out at second ss to 2b. 1 run, 1 hit, 1 error, 1 LOB.

I found this…it actually sounds like the coach prolonged the argument, a stop sign probably went up, he continued and was tossed.

The following is from a Ball State online publication:

After a Norse player stole second base in the top of the eighth, Maloney’s anger reached its limit. The Ball State coach rushed out of the dugout to argue with the second base umpire for the second time in the game. He followed the umpire all the way to the third base line, where the umpire tossed him.

And here is why you want to go 4 man like the SEC, Big-12, especially for the coverage, and when there is a double-header involved. They probably have enough time to get a replacement for today (Sunday). Thankfully, I do not believe it was a conference game. However, all games count.

Pittsburgh vs North Carolina

1st game of double header

Umpires - HP: A.J. Lostaglio 1B: Randy Dulin 3B: Richie Tallent
Start: 12:04 pm Time: 3:34 Attendance: 1299
Weather: Clear and perfect
Game notes:
A.J. Lostaglio left the game in the fifth (injury). Richie Tallent moved to
HP, Randy Dullin called the bases.

2nd game

Umpires - HP: Randy Dullin 1B: Richie Tallent
Start: 4:30 pm Time: 2:41 Attendance: 1288
Weather: Warm and beautiful

I don't know AJ, but from what I've seen he appears to be in very good shape.  Can we infer a head-related injury?

Wishing him a fast recovery this early in the season.  AJ has been to Omaha.  One of the best.

Do not know whether it was shot to the mask, or broken wrist or whatever.

Here is the only information I could find.  Also, due to all the Conference realignments, Pittsburgh is now in ACC, so it was a Conference game.

No, I am not worried that the article said he was hit with a "foul tip", rather than foul ball.

"The Tar Heels added single runs in the second and fourth before Thornton ran into trouble in the fifth thanks in part to an on-field delay. With a runner on first and Pitt's Eric Hess at the plate, home plate umpire A.J. Lostaglio was hit by a foul tip and eventually had to leave the game".

"...was hit by a foul tip"

One of my nails-on-a-chalkboard quotes.

I saw a replay of the foul ball, it was a nasty shot to the mask and he was replaced on the crew today. AJ is a great guy, hope he recovers quickly

Not all reasons to leave are head shots. Ex. Jeff Henrichs had to leave a game in San Diego last night after taking a foul ball to the hand/upper arm.

Good point. Which is why I "inferred" and not "concluded"

With a little tracking, it looks like David Pritchett has miraculously transported himself from the Big South, Asheville vs Appalachian series in Boone, wherever the heck that is, to be the PU and replacement for Lostaglio for the Pittsburgh/North Carolina game now in progress.

added.

Did  not see the Heinrich thing when checking last night. It was not at the end of the box score after the umpires names like the others were. However, it was mentioned in the play by play while SDS was at bat in the bottom of the 5th inning with 1 out.

Apparently Ron Ridd replaced Heinrich for Sunday's game.
