Hey guy`s,Im leaning towards pulling the trigger on a NEW Douglas CP but wanted to pick ur brain`s about a few thing`s. I`ve been to the sight and am gonna go with the 15' but i want to get that gap covered on the shoulder`s!. Also was wondering if they could rig up a way to add bicep protector`s to the cp?. I know i need to go to the site and ask them but i wanted to get any info from you guy`s. If any body got one last year and used it this past season, how did it work out? and did you modify it in anyway?. Sorry it`s so long and drawn out, but any info would help!!!. Thank`s Kraigo TX.Ump.

Hey Jax, i noticed the one your selling is a new Douglas if i`m not mistaken. Hope you dont mind me asking why,and did you get a chance to use it in any games to get used to it?. It still looks very clean!. Thanks Kraig

No need for the "gap" protection.

then you've never had one 'find the gap' ;)

it's personal preference like a lot of equipment  ....but that being said ........Jeff Cook at Douglas has a new 'flat' gap-cap very similar to the WV Gold ......

Yes gap protection.

I Love my Douglas.

I also have a WV Gold.

I do not prefer one over the other. They are equally great.

BUT - Team Wendys wiil not retrofit a Douglas.

So i want to send my Gold in. Need the money to do it hence selling the Douglas.

Still open for a trade with a Nike!

Hi Kraig, ... no ...not a 'new' one ....I have one of the last black ones from late 2010, and I also have an original West Vest by Douglas. I sent in my original for a refurb and thats when I started talking w/ Jeff Cook on this new gap cap. It's basically a modified 'collarbone arch' made to fit the gap area, ala the Wilson Gold ....

Email Jeff ...  jeffcook@douglaspads.com  and ask him about it ....

One thing that has not been mentioned is to replace the harness.  I didn't fully appreciate this CP until I replaced the Douglas harness with an All-Star Delta Flex.  Makes all the difference in the world IMO.  I have a 14" black one (oops) that I bought in early 2010, bought direct from Douglas before prices started getting crazy.

@Thunderheads I like the new low-profile gap protection.  Is that a prototype or could I get it now?

Great suggestion.

I acquired a Douglas on ebay five years ago for $41 (the gentleman threw in the Douglas shins for $20 more). Owing to Thunderheads, I had Douglas modify it with T-hooks and slots for $22. Then, I was bright enough to follow his lead again, and I put the Delta-flex harness on it for another $26. So for $89, I have this sleek, form-fitting rig, that, because of the Delta-flex, has never slipped an inch or required readjustment during a game. The Delta-flex is an excellent upgrade to any CP, and has made this Douglas as comfortable as I could imagine.

As for the subject of the shoulder coverage: it became an issue in 2010, when I had the honor and privilege of being drilled by then-Bruin Gerrit Cole at 98 MPH. The edge of that shoulder cap was mashed into my collarbone with such force that it gave me a bone bruise that looked like a plum was growing on my shoulder. A bump is still visible four years later. The only action that I took was to wear the more protective Wilson Gold at high-level action, and save the sleeker, more comfortable Douglas for the average high school or adult action. I did attach a McDavid hex-pad forearm guard to my shirt to pad that area for about the next month after it happened.

What I am toying with now is something very similar to what Thunder had Douglas do, except, the plastic pieces are going to be the two instep guards that I removed from my Gold shins. They fit over that gap amazingly closely.
