NUTSHOT!

So there I was, calling a 16U travel team game behind the plate.  Girls are throwing high 50's to low 60's.  I'm PU.  F2 sets up on the outside for the pitch, I'm in the slot.  Pitch comes, drops out like a cricket bowl, F2 FLINCHES OUT OF THE WAY, and the ball bounces up under my cup and slams me .  I scream what sounds like BBBBAAAAAAWWWWWLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL! and the girls start laughing while all men in the immediate vicinity shed a tear and say a prayer.  After I take about 15 minutes to regain my composure, F2 doesn't say anything to me on that so I tell her that she needs to get in front of those or at least make an attempt which her coach follows right up on.  In fact, the pitcher was more apologetic which was sportsmanlike and appreciated but unnecessary as I told her that one wasn't on her. 

 

Two batters later, girls hits a foul tip and nails me in the shoulder.  No big deal.  F2 gets up and starts saying, "Sorry, Blue!" with a concerned look on her face.  I let her know that on foul tips, that's just part of it and that's why we wear our gear.  Funny how women know what it feels like to get hit in the shoulder but no idea what it's like to get hit in the nads and proportions their sympathy accordingly.  That is all.

I had a cup on. It's a McDavid. Never tried the nutty buddy. Thinking of getting one just to see if it works better. I'm sure the McDavid somewhat helped but it was still brutal.

FWIW, I wear UA heat gear compression leggings and wore the NB "Mongo" and the NB jock strap on the outside of the UA this season. Honestly, OI had no issues and frankly, before, during, and after the games, I had forgotten I even had it on and didn't realize it until I got home! I was very impressed with the comfort.

PS . . . hope they make a "John Holmes" size soon . . .
