It's not even a little bit surprising to me that the manager and the commentators don't understand how and when a basepath is established. The one thing we should take away from this as amature umpires is how NOT to handle a heated discussion. In MLB it may be perfectly acceptable to stay away for a bit while one of the crew is being surrounded by a coach and players, but in an games we call as amature officials, as soon as one of our partners starts to get bombarded by a group of players, we need to bust ass out there and move the players away from the discussion. They did get to this melee to break it up, but in my opinion, it took longer than it should in an amature game.

If only MLBAM was as rigorous in hiring its online media folks as it is in hiring the GameDay stringers. Stringers go through (or used to go through) rules and knowledge tests, interviews, training, etc due to the vital nature of what they do, especially because those stats go straight to ESPN, FOX and the other rightsholders. I'd have to think this includes something so "basic" as INT vs. OBS. Meanwhile, those MLB.com videos go to the fans... different baseball IQ clientele...

The players demonstrated where the runner was, and the manager mentioned it in his post game, about how far in on the grass he was. The runner was on the grass from the first time he reversed direction and never really deviated that path.

Did anybody else notice that the argument started 5 players and a manager vs Diaz. Then Winters comes out and culls the heard. Great partner work right there.
