I hope he gets murder charges now, none of this manslaughter crap, this was an intentional act that resulted in death.

You guys are tough!  While I can see a severe sentence, rotting in jail for the rest of a 17 year old's life for a utterly stupid and completely unthinking act is harsh.  In all probability, this idiot had no concept of the consequences of his actions

No one is EVER going to mistake me for a bleeding heart liberal, but I recognize that teenager's brains are a completely different animal that that of an adults.  This incident is going to follow this kid for the rest of his life, as it should.  And he's probably a total dickhead.  But let's let the legal system (in which I don't have much faith, to start with) run it's course.  What should he get?  Off the top of my head, 20-30 years, parole in 10, probation for the remainder of the sentence.

The fact is, he's going to be out eventually.  He's going to have zero chance of getting a good job  -although he might want to look into teaching at Columbia:

Now THAT'S an outrage.

The charge they are seeking is five years max. That is ridiculous. Even a seventeen year old knows that hitting a ref is wrong.
