Sox/Jays Umpire Interference?

Anyone seen the video of the play involving Saltalamacchia and Clint Fagan from last night?  Didnt see it but heard the Sox complaining this morning that it should have been Umpires interference.  Couldnt find the video on MLB.com, youtube or google search.

Sounds like there is no dispute that Salty hit Fagan's mask.  Salty says it was as he was bringing his arm back, Fagan said it was after release.  Be curious to see video

According to Saltalamacchia in a writeup about the game, he talked with Fagan about it at the time. Fagan told him in his opinion Saltalamacchia contacted him on his follow through, not on the throw (in other words, in Fagan's opinion the throw was already gone). Saltalamacchia didn't see how that was physically possible, but dropped it because he admitted he didn't know what the ruling should be anyway. It was only later he realized the ball should have been dead but by then it was way too late to argue about it.

 

As far as Pedroia getting hit by the ball being a "give back," the replays showed he was still in the box when the ball hit him in the helmet visor. No give back there.

In a related story, PU Fagan was seen wearing a neck brace immediately following the game due to a "whiplash" type injury after he suffered a jarring blow to his chin sometime during the game.

Because that's what the box score says (or rather, doesn't).. 

 

It absolutely 100% without a doubt no arguments about it should be. The only way you can watch this clip and say no it wasn't was if you feel Salty tried to hit Fagan with his arm in a manner in no way consistent with his normal throwing motion to milk the call (good luck with that one).

 

Wrong.. just cause the Catchers hand hit the mask does not constitute Umpire INT.. The Umpire still has to deem if he interfered..

I hate to agree with the resident Blue Jays homer on the board, but if that's not umpire INT, I don't know what is.  MLB catcher's don't usually miss their target THAT badly.

Your post is misleading. The thrust of most posts in the thread is that the umpire SHOULD have judged U/INT here. When you lead with "Wrong...," it seems as if you're claiming on the contrary that he correctly ruled no U/INT.

But the rest of your brief post simply clarifies that contact with an umpire is not "automatically" INT, which I have not seen anyone deny.

 

Do you believe the play in question was ruled correctly? That seems to be the main issue in the thread, not the substance of the U/INT rule.

I know Clint well and if not for him I might not have had my job in A DI conference this year..and with that I'm not saying he was right or wrong... all im saying is just cause the catchers glove hits his mask, doesn't make it Umpire interference...

You know, you're right. I suppose F2 meant to throw it into RF, allow 2 runners to score, and R1 to move up to 2B. Rattling his hand off of Fagan's mask had nothing to do with that, since it was the plan all along!

Like I said to the person who commented this on my Facebook post - and who shared the same love of ellipses as you when they posted here under their known name - what end of the stick do you want on this play?

Who do we know what the F2 wanted to do.. players make mistakes all the time, and the Umpires should bail them out?....
