Middle School Varsity... I'm PU, nobody on.

Pitcher is going from the stretch even with the bases empty.

Pitch one, Foul.

Pitch two, Called Strike.

Batter looks at me: "He didn't pause" :question1:

Me: "There isn't anyone on base, he doesn't have to"

Pitch three, Strikeout swinging.

Batter again looks at me "He has to pause or it's a balk". :WTF

Me: "What are you talking about?  There's nobody on base!"

Batter walks away.

Between innings, the HC askes me what his player said to me.  I told him and he just laughed "The kid is never wrong".

Next inning, HC pulled him.  I laughed. :HD:

KLAH,

Richvee got my point.

Technically, the young lad's terminology was imprecise - but he had a point.

JM

Edited to say what I meant to rather than the opposite. Apologies to Richvee.

It definately wasn't quick pitching....

If there was a runner on, it would have been a balk for not stopping but not quick pitching.

Just looked it up in my Fed book..... It's in there.  WOW!  I doubt it's something that called hardly ever.

Obviously I have NEVER called that.

Trust me.... I don't plan on it anytime soon either!

I don't think anybody calls it.    I am a stickler, but even I knew to throw that page in the trash.

It is something that was decided that to make it easier anything that is illegal with runners it should be a ball with no runners. Another brainless LCD rule made by the same guy that spearheaded many of these types of rules.

dix,

So, what do you do when you've got that one coach out of 100 who has actually read the rule book and asks you why you're not awarding a ball to the batter, like the rule clearly and unequivocally says you should?

JM

P.S. I don't call it either.

1 out of 100? Is it that many?

He definately wasn't quick pitching.  F1 was waiting for B1 to be in the box and ready.... He got his signs, and just started his motion and pitched.  Absolutely nothing wrong IMHO....

johnny,

Blowing through a stop in set is not a quick pitch.

JM

I'm just saying that you can't quick pitch.

Why are we placing the onus for being ready on the batter?  Ideally the pitcher should be able to pitch at his pace.  Batter should be ready as soon as he's in the box.
