One time I had a batter in a game who had two strikes on her. The next pitch came in and as she watched it go by, she said, " Strike." And looked at me. It was a strike. I found it interesting that she would call a strike on herself. This was the Mustang baseball level for a city league. Have any of you had a similar situation?

I've had others say a different "S" word as the ball popped the catchers mitt, right before I ring them up!!!!

I love when a pitcher breaks off a great hook that catches the inside corner and the batter just drops his head right before you ring him up. Nobody is saying anything about that one. :rock

My favorite is the curve that the batter thinks is going to hit him and falls to the ground to get out of the way of and it breaks in across the plate. Only time I've laughed that hard ringing a kid up.

A couple times I've had the batter with 2 strikes take one right down the middle and just start back to the dugout before I've even made the call.

Had a 3-2 count last week, payoff pitch was a nasty knuckleball on the inside corner.  Before I rang him up he was getting the words "That's just not fair" out of his mouth.  Fun times.

I love it when they watch the pitch float through the zone and the dawning comprehension is apparent on their face. They slump their shoulders, turn dejectedly from the plate and drag their bat back to the dugout. In those cases, I just call it without the empphasis. Same as a swinging K3. No need to add insult to injury :)

Had this in a live game exercise.   Umpires rotating in every half inning.

I rotate to the plate.   I have no idea what the strike zone is gonna be, yet.    First pitch is low and away.

"SH!T!", B1 says.

"Guess it's a big zone", I think to myself, just before I call "Strike 1!"

i had a boy in a pony/pinto game who when the pitch was delivered swung, then he looked back at me and said "oh, i was only taking a practice swing", to which i said "that's nice.. Strike 1.."   :D

Yesterday. 0-2 count.

Batter says to himself "Here comes a curveball".

Pitch is a cockshot curve that the batter freezes on.

I punch him out, he shakes his head and walks away.

F2 laughed.

sometimes when the count has 2 strikes... you just know that the batter knows it was a strike.. you can hear 'em let their breath out in a sigh, turn and walk away, knowing we're gonna say those magic words....

I had a lefty in a Big League ( LL ) game once that had probably the best curve I've seen. The thing looked like it was coming out of the HT dugout and I'm not exaggerating. He also had a good fastball. The other team only had one lefthanded batter and he struck out three times on the curve. The third time he was down 0-2, he looked at me and said here comes the curve again and just did a nonchalant swing as the pitcher released the ball and headed back to the dugout before the ball was in the catcher's mitt. One of the funniest thing I have seen on a ball field.

Men's League game, 3-1 count, the pitcher throws a borderline fastball.  Before I make the call, the batter (who happened to be the catcher) drops his bat and takes off toward first.  So, of course, I ring up the strike.  He comes back with a big smile and says, "I made that one easy for you, didn't I?". "Yes, you did"

Or when they strike themselves out.  I was going to call it a ball but they started back to the dugout so I granted them their "wish".

Not the same,but.... last week a kid in a varsity asked me where the last pitch was after the catcher gunned down a runner at 2B. I looked at him with a WTF is wrong with you look and said, "In the strike zone." He looked at the ground and nodded in agreement. :question1:

Yesterday in a Bronco game, kid had a 3-02 count, takes one down the middle and just before I ring him up, looks back, smiles and says, "That's a strike. Can't take those.". Good call, young man.
