I joined a HS basketball association this year and have my first game on 11/10. I very excited and have to take a rules test online and pass before next Friday. I never played organized basketball so I hope I don't suck to badly but my association has provided ample training and I think I will enjoy it and not suck.

Anyone else officiate basketball?

Yep. Similarly, it's the one sport of the big three that I didn't really play or coach much. But I found that I really enjoyed officiating it. It's so much hands-on, and much more physically active. I thought it would be just something to do in the winter, but I've found that it rivals baseball for how much I enjoyed it.

I also work basketball, and enjoy it much more than I thought I would. I never played organized basketball, but have always found an interest in it. I like the fast pace, energy in the arena, and just the excitement in general.

I'd need lots of remedial training.

Is it interference or obstruction when a guy with the ball runs into a defender standing still? Does it matter if the defender is in "the box" near the backstop? Wait, you say it's a backboard, not a backstop? And, it's not a "box," it's a "lane" you say? You mean like the running lane??

I do not do basketball, I used to do soccer and baseball so I only would have 2 months max off and my wife said something about killing me if I worked basketball. Now I am too old and busted up to try.

I don't have time for other sports. I stay busy on the diamond. Broke 300 this weekend. :fuel:

This year will be my sixth season of basketball. I enjoy it, but not nearly as much as baseball. It's also more physically and mentally demanding, so I am only working about three days a week this year. I used to work five and sometimes six days a week and I was completely burnt out by the last few weeks of the season. I have found it more enjoyable since I cut back a little bit.

Same can be said for anything.

I'm starting my 4th season. I don't have any illusions that I'm much good but I enjoy it. I've found that working it has improved my ability to judge plays in every sport I work.

Since picking up baseball again this year this will probably be my last basketball season. Coming right out of football it is a bit tiring to roll right into basketball. I think two sports is enough and the break between the two is nice too.
