You also can't execute the hidden ball trick immediately following a dead ball.

I didn't see where a dead ball existed in the post I reponded to but I also didn't see where this thread took a left turn from what was being discussed.

i don't think it was in the post, but as a side note you also can't execute the hidden ball trick without the ball

I took a little pleasure in a game where the team was trying to do a hidden ball trick after a dead ball. The team was winning by a ton and just being classless stealing and running up the score and just overall had bad attitudes. The SS, F4 & F1 got together behind the mound after time had been called by the offense. I was in C with R2. Even my partner from the plate could see they gave the ball to the SS, but the runner didn't but was meandering around the bag. The 3 of them were all looking like the cat that swallowed the canary. The pitcher was playing with the rosin bag and they're basically starting to waste time and figure out how they're going to do this.

I yelled out to the shortstop, "Hey your're going to have to give the ball back to the pitcher so we can start the game again. The hidden ball trick doesn't work when the ball is dead." Oh they were angry that I busted them. But It gave me a smidgen of pleasure in an otherwise awful game.
