Had this occur on Saturday during a 13U Tournament.

Game has reached the time limit with HT losing by one run and coming up to bat.

As we get ready to start the inning HT Manager informs me he will have a batting change coming up.

I tell him "Roland, tell me when it occurs".

HT has 2 outs with R1 and R2.

Batter comes up to the plate and F1 throws and it is a HBP.

Bases are now loaded with 2 outs.

VT Manager requests time and it is granted.

He comes to me and states the last batter #38 was in the game earlier as a sub and had been removed.

Therefore he can not re-enter the game since he was already a burned sub.

I call HT Manager over and ask him why #38 was re-entered without announcing it and that he could not re-enter the game.

He says I told you we would make a change.

I reply that I said to tell me when you were going to make your change and that I don't take changes before they occur.

You re-entered him now without announcing it to me so I could advise the VT of the change or make the change on the line up.

We also called the TD over to get him in on the discussion before I made my ruling.

Once my partner and I as well as the TD were all on the same page, we announced our decision and call.

What do you think the ruling was or should have been?

I will announce what it was after some input.

What rules?

What special tournament rules if any?

OBR no special rules that effect this.

Under straight OBR, the illegal substitute is removed without further penalty.

The "play" in which he participated (i.e., HPB) stands and his (presumably legal) substitute takes his place on 1B.

JM, under OBR, according to what you just said, if the illegal sub comes in and jacks a salami to straightaway center the 4 runs count and no penalty???????

No, that's not true. But only because the illegal sub was at bat with only 2 runners on base. lol.

Plays made by an illegal sub stand under OBR. The original player is out of the game (that is, the substitution affects him) and the illegal sub is removed, so another player must now enter. (And that legal player can be the original player if the league / tournament has reentry -- which isnt covered of course in pure obr). No player, no game.

The player is was subbed for is burned, he is burned and if they no other sub, game is over. Also you have the option to dump the manager.

Sorry I did not get back to this sooner.

Was a little busy.

The Sub had already been burned and could not re enter.

Had no eligible subs to enter.

Ball game!!!!!!!

Oh and then a semi intoxicated dad tells us not to come back on Sunday because we sucked.

Opps...it was within 5 feet of the TD table.

Guess who was escorted from the facility and told not to come back on Sunday....lol

I looked all this up when you 1st posted. Intriguing. I know I'd read it before, but never seen it live, so it disappeared into obscurity. For me anyway. Thank for bringing it back to the front.
