short batter, tall catcher

When I do games behind the plate for younger age groups, there is often a pretty big size differential between the catcher and the batter. if the catcher sets up on the inside part of the plate, it is nearly impossible to see the plate. Have any of you come across a way to see the plate properly in this situation?

It gets even harder to see when the batter keeps his hands in a position that is in a direct line of F1's release point. Sometimes up and back works, and sometimes you just have to adjust based on the hand you're dealt. I have worked a little more over F2 at times like this, but I will never work on the outside.

I have even told the catcher that I will allow a little glove movement to frame an inside pitch that will prevent me from getting blocked out. Meaning he can set up middle in instead of directly inside for me to get a good look. Not just for the zone, but for foul ball off of batter, out or in the box or any interference. For the most part the catcher understands after he blocks me out the first time on the inside corner pitch with a batter that likes to crowd the plate and I miss the pitch. Sometimes you got to do what you got to do!

You can try this as well. If you don't want to do it b/c I'm doing it, watch a few MLB games or MiLB games...those guys dig in there and look right at the mitt.

Catcher sets up inside.. need to do what I can to make sure I see the pitch.. I hate looking over the top.. Miss the low pitch too much when I do that.. This has worked for me since xxxx xxxxxxxx told me to look across the plate and call where the ball hits the glove. He said it isnt umpire school anymore.. Do what you can for yourself to get the call right...
