OK so I moved down to Biloxi, MS in Late may, meet some of the umpires... our assoc is ok sized I believe some one said like 60 guys...

Well this weekend we had a Clinic that cost a $100.. we have a local guy who worked regional's for NCAA and also works in the Independent pro leagues. He help a young umpire go to Pro school and he even got a job in the MiLB's. well he is no a AA umpire. The AA umpire knows MLB umpire "LAZ" Diaz real well, and he brought Laz with him.. It was pretty cool. the only thing that sucked we had 7 guys show up, yes I said 7. But you can tell who wants to learn. I picked up a few things from those guys, a really good plate Conference tips.

1 more cool story here, we had a brand new guy ( well he was like 50) and he had nothing no pants jackets anything, by the time this guy leaves, he has a pair of Hoings Poly wools, a equipment bag, hat, Shin guards, a chest protector, and Laz Diaz jacket from this season. Pulled right off his back.

It really goes to show how much of a brother hood we umpires really are. BTW Laz is a really nice guy and a great Instructor. He was down to earth, funny and very approachable.

Just thought i would share my luck.. :yippie:

Awesome story Mazz

That is one thing I try to relay to people is that every experience I've had with MiLB or MLB umpires they do see us and treat us as brothers.

Other sites have a more pro bashing than we have here, and I do want guys to realize they are overwhelmingly supportive of us.

Mazz, awesome story! What kind of ball are you calling down there? Is that a FED association or college?

Nah, I wish! I'm in Louisiana and have been looking for a way to get into some college ball, even if it's just small colleges, just somewhere to start. I just don't have that right connection yet, and in this world it's all about who you know. It'll happen though I'm sure, I'm still young (or so I like to think). This your first year in the association in New Orleans?

That is so sad. I show up to every clinic I can. Even if another association is running it. I just go in like I belong and they think I am a new guy. :yippie:

The clinics around here are poorly attended by local umpires as well. They draw more from other areas of the state and surrounding states.
