Thanks for posting.

Can it be argued that the ball squirting out the glove at the last second was voluntary release? He had possesion of the ball and control of his body, does it not look like he was just adjusting the grip he had on the ball, after he demonstrated he had secure possesion?

Thoughts?

Mudder,

Pretty much ANYTHING can be "argued", but that would be a specious argument.

No catch.

Unusually intelligent commentary from the announcers.

Correct call. His momentum caused the ball to go out the TOP when he opened his glove. It did not voluntarily come out of his glove. And, he was not making an attempt to transfer it to his other hand which would indicate voluntary release of the ball.

Definitely the correct call. At first, I thought it may be voluntary release, but on the close up view, it is clear as day that he was still trying to secure the ball. Good call by 2B umpire.

Good call and kudos to the announcers for their accurate and on-point breakdown.

Gary Cohen and Ron Darling. Two of the more enjoyable, intelligent and articulate announcers around.
