Powdercoating a Face Mask Frame?

I have a Wilson Dyna Lite frame. The the vinyl coating is dinged up on it and it has been pushed to the bottom of the bag. I was thinking that that one of my winter project might be to remove the vinyl coating from the frame and have the frame professionally powdercoated. I would think that with a heat gun and some time that the coating should peel off with out much effort. Has anyone ever tried or done this? Costs? Hints?

I envison the final project to be either navy blue w/tan wrap-around pads or silver w/black wrap-around pads. If this goes well maybe the next one will be more "custom".

I wouldn't worry about stripping it down.

If you get it done, the shop that does it should be able to media blast it easily.

Another option to explore would be anodizing.

Either way find the shop and have them add it to a job they are doing with what you want. That may save you some money since they will not be setting everything up just for you.

I have a guy that stripped the vinyl coating from my mask and powder coated it silver. Definitely worth doing, makes it way lighter. If you want, I'll send you over his info.

I know that as I have one of the FM25's that I have in a rotation with another black frame. The FM25 is a favorite. Strong, light and comfortable.

I was just looking to take something old that I don't really use and turn it in to something neat that I might use occasionally. I am not sure the economics make much sense by the time I buy new pads and a harness along with paying someone to powdercoat the frame. A new facemask maybe less $$$$. I hate living in the disposable society......

Soon, unfortunataly they got delayed a bit.

Technically they are for the 2011 season, but I tried to push a small batch of them for the beginning of August to have for the end of 2010.

Looks like mid september now.

I just called a local shop that does powdercoating. It is going to be around $40-50 to have the frame sandblasted, washed and primed and powdercoated. Understandable knowing what goes into it. This is not worth it to save a Wilson Dyna-lite frame. By the time I get this done I would be half way to a titanium model. I am not that big of a fan of the Wilson mask beyond the wrap around pads. Would rather get a new model All-Star or a Diamond.
