Another Platinum is up on Ebay...how do I know...I put it there. Great condition. Just decided that I did not need it anymore and thought I could help someone out with some pro gear. Reserve has been met already, so it will sell.

Okay, time for an eBay lesson from the master. (have you bought a $30 plate coat, got free plate shoes or sold three pair of pants for $650? I rest my case)

If you want to sell your item, make sure there's not another one like it currently up. Take this item for example. If Kevin listed his now, he'd take buyers away from slo, and both items would have less interest. The trick is to list it just after the similar item sells, so you've still got warm customers.

Figure out a good end time. Ending your item at 3am won't get that last second bidding frenzy. But prime time on Sunday, say 7pm PST, is perfect. Most umpires are home, and not working at that time.

Pay for a couple of extra pictures. I would have never sold my pants for so much if I hadn't included a picture of the pockets. Who knew the white pockets on polywools were so cool? Well, at least two guys did, and the prices with through the roof.

Exactly why I listed mine just after the other two sold. I noticed that there was not a single Plat listed.

I will correct the spelling on the listing....never been my strong suit. I think the world of spell check messes us all up.

Anyone ever remember a used Shock FX on ebay? I switched to a System 7 this year and with the prices I am getting for stuff on Ebay right now I thought about unloading the FX. Just curious.

Happy bidding. I was only hoping to get between $70-$80, but with it already almost to $70 with 6 days left, I might do a little better. It really is a great piece of gear.

I guess we are all going to have to live with my spelling error.....Ebay will not let me change it. Not sure why, but when I go to revise item the title line is grayed out meaning it cannot be adjusted.

oh well.

Bidding early does one thing, it makes the seller happy:clap:

I had someone offer to buy it right after I put it up, before any bids. But I am glad that it took them a while to get back to me, because with a little more movement it will sell for more than what that person was willing to pay.

Like Kyle always says, buy pro gear...it is a great way to use something and then flip it for something else, plus somebody gets a great deal on nice piece of gear at the same time.

I always wondered why people bid on items that have 6 days left.

I do it to get the item on my radar and check the reserve price. The watch item list is not enough for me and my schedule.

If I get passed on a bid, my email and phone start blowing up which brings me back to the table. Now, once I have done that I go back to lurking until necessary to bid again.

I have a firm limit on known retail price items. I won't bid over what I believe the used value of an item is so I missed out on the 2 platinums last week. So, the sooner that it reaches my limit, the better for me to move on to something else.

Hey Naz

I see you are in Lumberton. Do you call high school ball? Although I live in Jasper, I call out of the Beaumont TASO chapter.

During the Little League all-star season I called a Junior League game in Lumberton last year, but I did not make it that way this time around.

Right now, I have only officiated LL for a few years. I contacted Beaumont this week to ask about joining TASO. I am definitely a new umpire.

Since I am now league president, I won't be able to umpire any of my league's games so I want to get more experience at higher levels and LL tournament levels. As player agent, I was able to umpire a few games last year.

I am sure that we move in similar circles. Jasper has quite the LL teams.

It seems that people really want my used Platinum. I cannot believe that it is already over $80 and it still has five days left in the auction.

In the beginning I was hoping for $80 but would have been happy with $70. $100 here we come...maybe

Not a bad gig to buy pro-gear use it for several seasons and then flip it for some newer pro-gear. Gotta love it.

Heck this might actually pay for the Douglas I bought earlier this summer.

I sold my Gold on eBay earlier this summer for about $120.

Proves that people are really kind of dumb:smachhead:

Why would you get one used, when for $20 more, OR LESS, you can order a brand spankin' new one?! I don't get it .........

Maybe umpire's gear is becoming like collectors items. We all know how much used Riddell Powers will draw.

Maybe people want a used protector because they are broken in and have that been worn before smell.

Whatever the case, I am seriously considering putting my Shock F/X up with a decent reserve and seeing what it will draw. I don't want to give it away, but I think I will be wearing my All-Star MVP4000SL a lot more often. Not sure if I need both. I already have a Diamond Silver mask and the Champro Magnesium (great deal from SOS Sports during their last sale...could not pass it up.) mask for backups.

Are you kidding? You don't get it?

Platinums and Golds go anwhere from $122 to 160 online ....so, why would you pay $120 PLUS shipping on ebay for a USED one, when for a fraction more, you can get a brand new one?:yippie::HD:

I don't care why they would do it, but right now for me it is working out well. I would expect it to stay in the $80-$100 range. But I will not complain if it sells higher.

GO FOR IT Slo! :hi5:

It's not the sellers .... it's the 'buyers' I'm referring to ;)

Well, ok then, that makes sense! :D

Basically, for a fraction more, you can get a brand new one....

Well, the auction ended a couple of hours ago and it went for $84.00. Not bad. A little bit more that I thought it should pull down, but I am happy with it. Now if the buyer will pay me, he will have a Plat on the way.

This summer has been my first experience selling gear on Ebay and it has been a good one. I have been able to sell used stuff at a pretty good premium and turn it into new stuff. Not bad.

Three items have gone up for auction and all three have brought in at least what I wanted for them. Not bad. Now the only thing I have to do is make a decision about my Shock F/X 2.0. It was worn for a season, but looks brand new. The cool thing is that I actually got two seasons out of the purchase. Wore a 1.0 in 2009 and had some padding come loose in the fall ('09). Sent it to Wilson for repairs. A week later a brand new 2.0 arrived. I even have a replacement chin and forehead pad that I would probably throw into the auction. Nothing wrong with it at all, I have just been converted to an All-Star guy after wearing my system 7. If I do sell it, the proceeds will go towards purchasing a Titanium cage for MVP4000. I bought the hollow steel version originally.
