I will only wear a Navy shirt when it is the only color my partner has. I will only wear Navy hats and Navy bags with Navy shirts, and no others.

What about T-Shirts? In Ohio HS ball, we have only navy shirts, and the state says we must wear red under them (looks really bad, why not white?). So a lot of umpires around here in the summer wear red tshirts under EVERYTHING. Cream/red Black/red, Powder/Red. When I say something people look at me like I am an idiot. I was always wear black or white under my shirt, to match trim color. Anyone else have a problem with this?

Around here, it's black or navy under everything. I guess you could say your undershirt matches the color of your hat and ball bags, because that's the way it works out.

I am in the camp of wearing all black accessories regardless of shirt.

Here, all 3 of my assignors mandate we wear the association issued (for a price) hat. All three use Black with their logo on it.

Therefore, always Black bags no matter what color shirt!

Red T-shirts were in vogue here a while back, but I haven't seen as many lately. I only see them with Navy shirts, usually would only see them at tournaments or in the HS playoffs, where the 2 or 3 base umpires would all be expected to match.

I wore a red mock turtleneck (Champion C9 compression) last night on the plate under CP (obviously) and a LS navy jersey as my partner forgot a jacket and it was a bit cool last night. No idea how it looked though (oh and to stay on track with the thread I wore black ball bags and cap). I have a couple of red tSH*#s from back in the navy shirt days, but the majority of my undershirts are black or navy now.

To a previous post, I think I would look like my grandfather with a white t-shirt under a navy umpire shirt. Not a good look.

I was taught with undershirts you wear the color of the outter stripe.

Navy- red

Powder blue- navy

Black- white

Is this the general consensus?

A white undershirt makes you look like a longshoreman. Save that for your long sleeved, plaid flannel shirt, coming soon from the Official's Choice.

We can wear anything we want as long as partner matches. I have not wore navy in over a year, its only black and sometimes powder blue with black collar we call that pro blue. So with those 2 shirts its black hats and bags only. When i did and if i ever have to again wear navy its navy hat and bags. With the other powder blues its navy hat and bags. Anything else just doesnt look good. As for undershirts with black shirt its black or white tshirt. With pro blue its black only. With navy its either navy or red and with powder blue its navy or white. And of course you match your partner.

So what undershirt goes with cream? Or do you just go without undershirt since the only reason you're wearing cream is that it's probably 95 degrees or hotter outside?

I wear black.

Outer stripe on a Black shirt isn't white...it's black .... black jersey=black tshirt

Hmmm....black with cream just sounds like it would look odd. And by the outer stripe guideline, the outer stripe is cream. I doubt I've ever seen a cream undershirt, so it seems white would be a closer match than black.

Maybe it's just easier to go without undershirt at all with cream.

Guys, ..

Please let common sense take over here .....

Regardless of what the TECHNICAL OUTER STRIPE IS ..... wear what looks best and makes sense. Cream - wont/can't work w/ a cream shirt, would look silly with white, .... deduction ...>BLACK!

The game assignments must not be rolling in this time of the year, because you guys have a ton of time on your hands to worry about this so much.

Sarcasm, but my point remains. Who cares what undershirt you wear? Just match your partner and get calls right.

I know zm, ...I know ....

look at the topic ...it's about what color ball bags to wear and it's migrated to shirts and undershirts. At least it's staying on topic?

No undershirt? Tell me you're not talking about PU.

Black under cream - it matches the stripe (and the hat and ballbags).

In LL, I wear red under navy; personally, I think it looks good. But my mentor told me that red under navy was "little-leagueish" and to wear navy under navy. Most people seem to agree and almost all my non-LL partners wear navy with navy.

I just try to avoid navy - problem solved :)

(said totally in jest - before someone corrects me, yes I know I wore Navy earlier this week and posted about it...)

The only time I wear navy is when it's all my partner has or they have the plate. Not in jest... ;)

I wear black ball bags with everything, they look fine, match my belt and shoes. Here, Here on the navy shirt. Only time I wear it any more is when my partner doesn't have anything else and I strongly suggest he purchase black.

We wear navy when:

A. partner is new and only has navy...black and MLB powder are our association default shirts.

B. State Finals, mandated by State for "official" uniform

(Also: black under polo blue and cream.)

General consensus, yes. However, black is acceptable under black, and navy's acceptable under navy.
