IMHO-All umpires made $3600 for this tournament. It does not seem fair that 2 had to work 9 games and 2 only 7. Also, 2 had to work 3 plate jobs and 2 only had to do 1*. They should all have done 2 plate jobs and had there been a 17th and deciding game, 1 umpire would work a 3rd plate game. They are all highly qualified and should not be allowed to get out of plate work. If they allow this, then they should put them at 1B for all their other games and not at 2B and 3B.

The CWSU should also have received the 40% raise this year that counterpart basketball just received for their 2010 NCAA tournament. This would put the Regionals at $2,000, Supers $1,500 and CWS at $5,000.

I did not include working the foul lines for the last 2 games in my comments or stats above.

Were they working specific crews during each part of the series, or was it a mixed bag? If it were crews, I can see how an umpire might get more games or more plates -- it's part of the rotation.

Also, having the plate is an honor, especially for the higher-level games. I'd guess the guys with the more games (and more plates) were getting rewarded for their hard work.

Think about MLB umpires. There's 6 on a World Series crew. The Crew Chief gets the plate for games 1 and 7. If the Series goes to 7, he would get an extra plate game, but probably got paid the same as the other umpires.

I just think they should all have the honor of working the plate 2 times as a reward for their hard work in a 16 game tournament since there are 8 of them. Management can let them work any 2, it does not matter. Then, just like MLB, if it goes to that 17th game, one would have to work that extra (3rd plate) assignment.

These gentlemen are all excellent umpires and they just work when and where they are told by someone else. They do not get to pick and choose themselves, just as they did not get to pick themselves to work the CWS to start with. Without watching all the games, I imagine they all did a superb job.
