Hey guys,

So my season officially kicks off next Tuesday and I got to looking at my equipment and to be honest my hats are looking a little gross any suggestions on how to clean off the grime that can build up over a season?

Go to Wal-Mart or any big box store and buy a cap cage...wash them. I toss mine right in with my gear on a gentle cycle and have had no issues. Lids also carries the cap cages...

how about on site?

I heard woolite works? I have been rinsing them with water with mixed results. There should be a good way to clean them in the field.

Cleaning it is cool; replacing it is better. They're down to under $8 each now for the best Richardson.

Also, a thorough spraying with a mild Febreze solution between wearings kills all the bacteria that makes it look (and smell) gunky.

I get gentle soap, a toothbrush, and scrub them in my utility sink. And LOTS of cold water to rinse all the soap out. Then I put them in one of those cage forms to air dry in the garage.

at this point sadly (being on a college budget and having my first couple of games go back into recertification for next year) it may be a while before im able to just straight away get another set.... ultimatly it is what i will probably do i was just thinking perhaps someone may have had a trick to cleaning them on the fly...

Thanks for the input guys

If you haven't seen the look on your wife's face when she sees you showering with your hat on, then you are really missing out.

knowing my fiance she would probably give me a weird look and call me a nerd as per usual ><

Just throw them in the washer with your uniforms and air dry them using a cap cage or place them on a bowl.

Just found a way clean them without throwing them in the wash, seems fairly simple but didnt dawn on me until talking with one of my friends about the subject of cleaning things in general but his mom when he would come home with a similar issue from camping or what ever would just wash them by hand with a tooth brush in a sink/bucket full of warm water and liquid laundry detergent and then let them air dry, needless to say my hats are squeeky clean and ready to go for this tuesday!

thanks all for your input!

I hand wash mine in the sink, usually with AXE body wash or dish soap, in warm water. The dirt comes pouring out, then I rinse them a few times with several sinks full of fresh cold water. I then squeeze out as much water as I can, towel dry them, and then hand shape and crease them to look all MLB. Then I use a potato chip bag clip or clothespins to clip the crease of the crown with the back crease and the bill, and let them dry in the sun this way. When they're dry I remove the clip and they are ready to look like they came from the dry cleaners.

First choice-- replace, caps are disposable

If you are going to wash be careful. I do not remember which brand off the TOP of my head, but one of them has a flemsy cardboard bill if you soak it it will be ruined.

Please chime in if you know of the brand which this is.

I have only used Roman Pro (miss those), NewEra, +POS (don't miss those), and now Richardson exclusively. None of those had cardboard bills.
