I recieved this today:

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has advised us that the BBCOR decertification process has been implemented for the Marucci CAT5 33-inch model.

Effective immediately and until further notice, this bat (Marucci CAT5 33" length) should be considered a non-compliant bat and subject to NFHS Baseball Rules 4-1-3b and 7-4-1a.

I got the same email.

Is this something that you are going to look for and penalize immediately? or just maybe if you see it nonchalantly (never used this word before) tell a coach to get it out of play?

Had a game today where each team had a Marucci CAT5. I only knew it was that bat because I looked up a picture of it when I got the email. The only thing was that both of these 2 bats were 31oz so they were legal.

Had one of them been the 33oz I believe I would have told the coach quietly to get it out of play.

What would you do?

I usually never talk about things like this in my plate meeting but being that I had just viewed the email myself right before I left for the game I meantioned it. Both coaches had already taken care of their business and removed them from their bags.

What makes it even more interesting is that I work at a sporting goods store. I have heard this from a couple customers but havent yet confirmed it. Hopefully I can before we sell one. I know we just transferred a white 32 inch to another store but I want to make sure we dont sell any 33s if they they are illegal.

You know its the 33 inch model and not the 33 oz model thats illegal, right?

And you do what you always would if done with an illegal bat except you dont go into the dugout before the game to look for it. If you can find it before the kid steps into the box then you can deal with lesser penalties so thats what I'd try to do.

So we just got the word from Marucci that, yes indeed, it is the WHITE Cat-5 33 inch. Hopefully nothing more comes of this.

Supposedly this is the last of it for this year. Evidently the NCAA has finished with its testing and because we all know that FED only thinks for itself when it comes to silly rules. We should not have to worry about new illegal bats.
