A funny thing happened on the way to the dryer

After a laundering mishap, one of my Honig's cream shirts suddenly became my coolest gray shirt!

I worked a twin-bill with a new partner. He had the first plate game, so he called for cream. I always bring it just in case when I don't know the guy I'm working with and I'm not sure if he hates cream. Well, after the second game, I broke out this black sports towel that I bring in case they give us a locker room that isn't supplied with towels.

After I finished up, I threw everything--including the black towel--into my mesh hamper. When I got home, I threw the contents into the washer, forgetting that the black towel had never before been washed. Well, when I removed the washed uniform shirts and towel and other stuff, I saw this formerly cream colored shirt had turned gray!

I love the gray shirt the best of all the light alternates (pro blue, cream, and of course, powder). But now, I have one with the more subtle black pinstripe collar and sleeve trim that also bears the prestigious Honig's logo.

I suppose I'm going to try to duplicate this mishap, because this one doesn't match anyone else's gray--if they even own one. I have already had several colleagues vow to try it on one of their creams.

This unique new gray Honig's is absolutely my favorite light shirt. I'll need to make a couple more of them.

So what will happen to the new gray shirt? Will it start fading off?

I'm sure it will never return to the orifinal creme color.

Will you have to put another black towel in the wash when or if it starts fading again?

It happened in cold, yes. And it's been washed again, and nothing changed.

I've got a new-old-stock +POS silver jersey that may just be the sharpest in the rack. It goes well with charcoal slacks, like a nice black shirt does, yet reflects a lot of heat, like a white shirt does. Cream is okay, but really doesn't go well with grey slacks, IMO. Light blue has always been a bit effeminate, but this is from a guy who wears his pink uniform proudly on the right occasions.

Me, I like variety, and don't like the basic choices we're stuck with in most organizations. I have a maroon shirt that's slick, and green one for St. Patricks Day. Both are better looking than blue or cream. But if you run across an old +POS silver one (I don't if their current silver is NOS, or the awful new ones), keep it.

Steer clear of today's +POS shirts. They are of maddeningly low quality. I tried to buy their gray shirts, because they had that wide collar trim stripe similar to the stripe on the pro blue. I don't care as much for the trim stripe on the standard high school style gray (Smitty, Dalco). I thought the +POS would at least be comparable in quality to a Honig's or a Majestic, but they were inferior--vastly inferior. And they were over $30 each. At least he refunded my money when I rejected them.

I have an older issue +POS Official MiLB black jacket that is fantastic. But don't let their older issue stuff fool you, this new round of stuff is pitiful.

I'm going to experiment with some actual dyeing of another cream shirt, which should work at least as well as an accidental dyeing. I want more of these shirts.

My favorite plate shirt is my +POS.

It is 2" broader in the shoulder and 2" longer at the bottom.

Both of these characteristics help keep the shirt tucked in. (I have not had luck with the rubber belt). I am only 5'10", but it seems taller guys would really benefit from this longer shirt.

I noticed the material was slightly heavier than my other shirts and I perceived this to be an advantage.

The ones from precisely two years ago were the ones of unacceptable quality. For $30-plus, they should have come with a pair of scissors to trim all the loose threads. And for $30-plus, the collar shouldn't pill after a single washing. And for $30-plus, a shirt labeled L for large should at least be large-sized.

Maybe I'm asking too much from a $30 shirt, and maybe you got an improved version, if you're actually pleased with it.
