The light just came on, thank you. I've had my head stuck so far up my a$$ on this one it's amazing that I can see my keyboard to type. I still maintain that awardng an immediate ball under the old rule was something we should enforce. I've been convinced of this since reading Carl Childress' "51 Ways to Ruin a Baseball Game." I fully realize that under the old rule there was no provision to let it go if the pitcher wiped, but I always have, as have most of the men I work with.

Tim.

While you could of given the benefit of the doubt to the pitcher if he had one foot on and one off, or went to the mouth as he was walking off the dirt, at any of the adult leagues run under pro rules here it was always enforced as a ball with no warning if the pitcher went to the mouth on the dirt under the old rule.

Uh, just to the original topic, I've skimmed the thread and it went somewhere else. Game 5 NLDS STL PHL bot 2, Carpenter does the simultaneous step off and split hands. No balk. As we all call it. It gets called when the hands come apart slowly or definitively before the foot moves. By FED rule the foot should hit before the hands separate but if it's quick nobody is going to call it in FED or any other venue.

I owe you a huge apology. This wasn't a case of me getting called on not knowing a rule and refusing to own it. This was a case of me being a dipstick and not knowing the rule change, and then not being able objectively listen to what you were trying to tell me.

If you get a chance, see if you can find the article by Carl Childress that I was talking about. It's titled "51 Ways to Ruin a Baseball Game." It's an interesting read about some game management techniques he suggests using in amature games.

Tim.

No hard feelings.

As for the batter's box thing: I am not as picky as you would think. If a batter is inching his way out of the back of the box, I will remind him to stay in the box, which works a vast majority of the time and it is never an issue. I just don't purposely erase the lines of the batter's box. I worked on an all turf field this spring that had the lines in the turf, and it was nice to have full batter's boxes the whole game.

noumpere,

The quote feature is not working right for me, but I agree. There was an MLB play this year where someone posted the video of a ball being called when a pitcher went to his mouth and didn't wipe.

BigUmp56..where are you from? and what level of ball you work.. just wondering

South Bend Indiana.

Some MSBL, but mostly HS and other 18U to 16U league play in multiple organizations. Is there a particular reason that you're asking?

If you want to place a quote and can't get the feature to work, place the quote in bold letters and one of us will fix the quote for you.
