Had an 11U DH today with two decent travel teams, JaxRolo as my partner. Games went well, no complaints from either side, but in the second inning of game two, I heard DC calling time. He started complaining that the fan sitting directly behind me was tipping the batter off, as he could see F2's fingers through his legs. I couldn't hear it, but then again I wasn't paying much attention to the fans, but apparently he would yell "Fastball in!" or whatever just as F1 started his windup. The backstops at the field we were on are barely 10 feet from the plate, so he didn't have to be loud. Before I even had a chance to respond, the guy picked up his cooler and chair and hustled back to his side (he was slightly on DC's side, as I guess the view was better.

I know something like that isn't exactly within the spirit of play, but is it against the rules? As far as I know, unless a fan is obviously intoxicated, profane, or threatening, I can't acknowledge him or her. But if the guy had refused to move, it could have gotten ugly fast. There was already some muttering from VT's fans. If that happens in the future, is there anything I should do, or do i just let it sort itself out? Personally, I wanted to just tell DC to tell his catcher to hide the signs a little more efficiently:fuel:, but that isn't my job.

I agree! It sounds like the coach needs to worry more about teaching his catcher the proper way to give signs/signals to the pitcher rather than worrying about what John Doe is doing behind the fence!

Take care of business on your side of the fence.

Like has already been said, this coach needs to instruct his catcher.

The only time I have had to deal with this I had a 1st base coach tipping his batters.

He's almost standing in fair territory to get a look down the line at the catcher

No coaches boxes were laid out. So without any prompting, I drew one in the dirt at least 15 feet off the line and told both teams that their coaches were to stay entirely in the box.

Amazingly no one complained...I wonder why?

Why would the OC complain that the batter was getting tipped off as to the incoming pitch?:WTF

Maybe he was getting them wrong.

BA-DA BOOM! I tell ya, I crack myself up ... :stir
