How do the new Reebok plate shoes compare to the NB405's ......which I just bought last year

A more specific question would certainly be helpful, unless you're expecting a multi-page response on such a general question.

BTW, the number is '450' (noting your typo).

I would say (in general) that if you already have a pair of NB450s, then you should keep wearing them if they worked well for you.

I can not comment on the NB but I very recently got a pair of Reebok Magistrate Plate Shoes.

Did two games in them on Saturday.

They were very comfortable and I am very happy with them.

The one thing that intrigues me about the Reebok shoes is that the sole looks like it has better mud/wet ground traction than the 450's.

My 450's are doing well, but if Reebok comes out with a mid-cut all black plate shoe I'll give it a try. They're half way there with the all black low cut shoes.

Conspicuous consumption is ill advised in most cases.

The hell you say.....

Anyways, my Reeboks get to my doorstep tomorrow, so I'll walk around a bit, and do a comparison with my 450s. I figure if I have two pair, they'll last twice as long.

Picked up a pair of 09' Reebok Majistrates on clearance around X-mas (ya, a present to myself) from Ump-Attire. My first plate shoes, they feel good, seem comfortable, juiced to have them, and they fit pretty well al-be-it needing to be broke in a bit. My only adjustment that I will be making (as far as I can tell) is putting a well placed "sharpie" to the obnoxious "Reebok" logo's that came with the 09's. I will tell you how they handle when the snow "eventually" starts melting in another couple of months

That's a lot of white to Sharpie out. Be careful, it might end up looking bad. I would just leave it alone.

Yes, the Reebok's are definitely more comfortable than the NBs.

Got NBs last year and could not believe the difference in comfort and weight from my older Honig's mid cut plates with the heavy Goodyear tred..from the early 2000s.

I loved them and said I would never go back. I decided that I wanted to have a second pair of plate shoes so I ordered a pair of the Reebok Magistrates (2010). I have not done a game yet, but I wore them around the office and they are A LOT more comfortable than the NB 450s. I really think I am going to like the the more studded sole. The only negative I had about my NBs was the fact that it was hard to dig in and get a firm footing behind the plate.

I am sure they will both get worn this season, but if I could only get one pair, I would go with the Reeboks.

On a side note, I wore my Field Magistrate II midcut base shoes for the first time yesterday and loved the comfort. I am new to midcut on the bases, but I like the support. You can get them at Dick's and Amazon. For some reason most of the Umpire retailers do not carry them. They are identical to the Quag mid except with MLB logos instead of NFL ones.

How much were they on Amazon or at Dicks? My wife is on Amazon all the time and there is a Dicks not far away from me. I will have to check them out and probably pick up a pair if they are cheaper than I can find the NB995s.

They were 79.99 at dicks, but I found an online coupon after christmas and got 20% off. With shipping and tax they ran right at $65.oo

Amazon has them for $29, but they are down to having 7, 7.5, 9, and 15. They had them for $40 for a while, but they never had my size.

I wanted a mid cut shoe and I had heard that the 995s were not that comfortable. I love the feel and look of the rebook shoe, plus I like the white.

I tried on a pair of 995s and hated them. They felt really thin and thus offered very little support.

Plate shoes are like chest protectors, masks, and shin guards. Personal preference abounds. I wore a pair of Honigs high tops for 10 years, had them re-soled and re-heeled several times and finally wore them out from the inside. Outside still looks great. Then I bought a pair of Tanel 360 low tops and they are fine also, very lightweight, but I could never quite get used to low tops, so I got a pair of NB 450's and very satisified with them. I have no interest in trying anything new.

Sadly, I went in to Dicks hoping to see the reeboks or even better, to get my hands on the 3N2 base shoes that I saw online. Unfortunately, the online store is more or less a completely different company than the Dicks retail stores. Kind of makes me sad because if I found them at the store I would have bought them right away.
