I will check with Wendelstedt and see if i can get a bit more clarity on what to expect in their 3-day clinic (instructors, curriculum, etc). The fact that they have one scheduled one in my neck of the woods, and, that it appears that it would be less costly than Evans, is appealing.

However, They seem to be flying by the seat of their pants here....Things seem much more clear cut, and, for a short term clinic, more comprehensive, with Evans. I think i will have to strongly consider waiting for an opportunity to attend one of the Evans Classics.

Well for me, not having gone to either school yet, Jim seems to be the type to get out and about to teach people. An example is his one week camps in Arizona and Florida along with his weekend clinics he puts on all over the nation (and example would be the much publicized, both on here and the ABUA forums, clinic he put on in Portland last March).

Just my thoughts on the thing.

He also has a clinic in New Jersey the Liberty Classic is what it is called.

Nothing this year in the Pacific NW sadly. However, from the sounds of it the training up here is pretty extensive so Im looking forward to it.

i have thought about going to one of the professional umpire schools after high school. i thought mabye i could take a year off between high school and college and go to on eof the schools for part of that year. is that a good time to go? is there an age requierment or something like that?

It depends on what your goals are.

If your goal is to become a professional umpire, then you'd be better off going to college first (if that's in your plans).

Given the long odds of making it to the professional ranks, and the even longer odds of making it to the majors, then you most certainly would want to have something to fall back on, which is why college first is recommended.

If you want to attend in order to be a better umpire, or perhaps to one day get to the higher level college ranks, then go for it as soon as you can.
