Ripken ruleset 12U Majors. R1 on 1B and pitcher is in set position. R1 easily takes 2B and pitcher doesn’t flinch…he’s still in set position. He pitches and batter hits fly ball to F7, which is caught in the air for the first out. Coach of the defense yells to his team to throw back to 1B because R1 needs to tag up and he wants to double up R1. While the ball is being thrown to 1B, R1 on 2B now runs to 3B easily. I rule that R1 is safe at 3B because he had legally acquired 2B before the pitch was started. However, I had never seen this situation before and I am wondering if I got it right. Thank you!

NFHS Batter begins the pitch sequence in a relatively upright stance. As pitch is being delivered, he squats down 4-5 inches as part of his load. He’s not intending to get small, it’s just part of his swing. Is the strike zone based on the squatted, loaded lower position he’s in when the ball crosses the plate, or on his position when the pitcher starts the pitch? Thank you very much.

It’s relatively common in Hawaii to not have lines in community leagues because Dolomark is difficult/costly to get. The safest thing to have done was to call foul and lecture the runner. But with my luck, the next pitch would have been hit for a grand slam and then the defensive coach would be up in arms.

NFHS rules Bases loaded, two out. Batter hits a pop up on 3B line, not very high but with a lot of spin. F1 and F5 both attempt to catch the fly but neither do and neither touch the ball. Ball lands foul about 2 feet from the line and is rolling slowly toward fair territory. R3 was moving on the pitch and easily touched home before I could rule fair/foul. R3 then thinks it was probably a foul ball (it’s still rolling and is near the foul line) and stops and picks up the slowly rolling ball thinking he is being helpful. I call him out for interference and he’s the third out. This league typically does not paint foul lines so I am eyeballing it as to fair/foul. When he touched the ball, I believe it was foul but still had enough rolling momentum to make it to the invisible foul line. Question: does his run score? Thank you for your help.

OBR Batter hits hard line drive to RF and F9 played it quickly on one hop and threw to 1B in attempt to get batter-runner. Ball sails over F3 and out of play. A good throw would have easily retired the batter-runner. Is batter-runner awarded 2B? To me, that’s obvious, but my partner said that’s only for throws from an infielder. He was adamant about it so I let it go and coaches didn’t say anything. Thank you.

I ordered two pair of the XL and I am surprised at how short they are. They seem like decent quality but too short for my liking. I gave them to my son and he likes them. For 88¢ you can’t go wrong, but if I paid full price I would have returned them.

I asked F3 about this and they said the pads are different. I have V2 and have not seen V1, so I can’t confirm.

Question 1: R2. Pitcher in stretch position. Runner takes off for 3B but pitcher does not know that. Pitcher spins and throws to 2B thinking he is holding the runner who is now half way to 3B. Is this anything? Question 2: Could the pitcher step and throw directly to 3B in an attempt to get the runner coming into 3B, or does the pitcher have to step off. When watching some of the MLB playoff games, I could hear on hot mics some of the umpires calling balls and saying “outside”, “high”, “inside”. I don’t recall a “low.” I was taught to not do that. What do you all think? Thank you.

Babe Ruth rules R1. RHP makes a hop pickoff move to 1B. The right foot (pivot foot) disengages from the pitcher’s plate, but in front of the plate. Can I confirm that this is considered stepping off, or not? It matters on base awards if the pitcher throws it into dead ball territory. Thank you very much.

I bought the Liquid IV at Costco and I like it. There are a few different kinds. One is like Gatorade with the sugars and another is with just electrolytes and no sugar. I got the electrolyte version in guava. I put half a pack in each of the 32 oz jugs I take to the field. Works well.

I always wear a throat guard. Lately I have been using the Force3 on my F3v2 mask just because it matches, but the plastic throat guards are great, too. I wouldn’t umpire without one.
