    ruled it hit the knob and it was in play - the crux of my question is why was R3 called safe? Ball clearly beats R3 by 8-10' and catcher clearly on the plate with his foot. HU does say something to the catcher when questioned, but never indicates it was OBS, I just do not get this call.

    understood Rich - thank you. in this instance the runner did not alter his path as I recall, the ump made no indication that it was OBS, just signaled safe.

    Based on your description, ball was never out of play, legal appeal IMO. Similar topic to the discussion about the Dbacks game the other day. I'm sure more knowledgeable members will chime in

    I guess it could be the play. player had a clean slide between 2's legs to get the plate easily. IIRC without any contact (edit - there was minor contact with the catchers back leg) (see post below for video) Also 2 had the ball a good 3 steps before R3 was there

    yea, I see what you mean after the call in the Midwest Semi just now. Force at the plate, runner clearly out, HPU rules safe.... SMH I'm enjoying the baseball and I realize the umps are all volunteer and there on their own dime.

    I take that is part of the UM and not OBR? I didn't recall that wording in OBR and just looked again and do not see it. so in the example above - do you think that throw would reasonably be expected to retire the runner?

    Anyone watching these Regional games? In the short time I've been reading UE, I've learned a lot about proper positioning, I still have a lot more to learn. Has anyone noticed anything about the positioning on some of the plays?

    I saw that play last night live and was intrigued by it. I guess the ball beating the runner is no longer a good mantra on the MLB level

    don't see that much anymore with IR now a days. Takes some of the fun out of watching the games....

    from what I've seen on various broadcasts and read online, the MLB crews in NY usually have views of the play that the broadcast doesn't, so there could be angles we don't see. @DVA7130 why? the only issue I see with it (as a layman) is that i's not "instant"
