Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the CCA Manual? Everywhere I look right now is sold out. I desperately need to get in it and study it ASAP. I have to master my 3-man mechanics.

Order one size up. I normally wear a medium but when I put on my WV Platinum, the shirt gets awfully snug especially on my GUNS. LOL. The newer Honigs medium fits perfect if you have one of those and it fits well then I'd say order a large in the Majestic.

I've seen this term floating around lately and I'm curious to know exactly what it's used for. Plays at first? I was taught to develop a 90 degree angle but is there a new standard developing? I remember seeing a few MLB guys take plays at what appeared to possibly be "two steps fair." I know there a lot of knowledgeable guys here. Someone inform me please!

On MLB.tv there is a setting for the audio to be set to a setting titled "PARK" Essentially this audio setting features the video of the broadcast of your choice but as for the audio, you listen to an on-field microphone. It's a good tool if something happens at the plate (like this) where you want to listen in. How do I find this setting? That'd be great to hear some things that are said on field. I found the video but I only have the option of turning the volume up or down.

Oh I forgot. You don't have much partying to worry about in ZERO beach. We spent most of our time working out, resting and washing on Sundays. Last word of advice I have is BE IN SHAPE. I like to think I'm in fairly good shape having ended my college track career only 4 years ago but I was sore after the first week. GOOD LUCK!

Awesome post by Haid but also, try giving The Umpire School a call/look. Any questions you have, someone will be willing to answer. Andy Shultz is the guy who helped me with everything. I attended last year which was the second year of operation and I thought it was awesome. It was very organized and everything was run the nearly the exact same way Haid said. I wasn't chosen but it's an experience I'll never forget. Also, it doesn't hurt to be taught by the guys who are ultimately going to be evaluating you providing you make it to the eval course.

I'm attending this one in Mississippi although I live in Louisiana. I think it's gonna be awesome. I was able to meet the instructors a few weeks ago at another camp and they were great and nice resumes. After attending The Umpire School, I am great at two man mechanics and this will be my second opportunity to learn three man. I can't wait! If any of you guys are attending in MS, let me know. It'd be great to meet anyone from here.

The author said it was done too quickly but I think the timing was perfect. The batter willfully refused to step back into the box after being repeatedly asked or told to. The best thing about this is that I met the guy who called it. What you guys think?

A little off topic and I didn't read all the posts but how about batters swinging at pitches and then turning to ask "Was that a strike?" My response is yes! (hell yeah! in my head) to keep them swinging. What you guys think about this? Also I had a catcher at bat, called a borderline strike on him at the knee and he turned and asked "Bottom?" as in bottom of the zone and I said yes. My answer probably should've been NO, I can go lower but I wasn't thinking quick enough. lol ....These college kids know how to take their shots at you don't they? I'm learning that every game.

Righties. That left foot being as forward as it is makes me feel like I'm attacking the slot and see things much clearer.

Speaking of which, do you remember why they taught us non-slot and then slot foot? I notice other guys go slot foot first as well. However this weekend one of our instructors pulled me to the side and gave me some pointers and in his demonstration he confirmed TUS's idea and said non-slot then slot.

It should be the opposite. Not the way it's taught in pro school. Non slot and then slot foot.

All of this is awesome. That's pretty much the same thing I got from my 3-4 instructors and the evaluator watching except for the part about my in between pitches stance. I actually stand that way to so that I can remember "non-slot foot and then slot foot" when getting into my stance. My actual plate stance on right handed batters seems to the biggest issue. I'll take note of all of these and work on it in my upcoming game this Thursday. Thanks! The waving was to get the press box to stop the music. Being nervous and overthinking. As soon as I let him throw it back to the pitcher, I realized that I had not taken it to check it. By then I didn't want to ask for it back and delay the game and also draw attention to it.

Overthrow to 2nd base and ball goes into the outfield. Who has play at third? I don't remember being corrected on that but if I AM wrong. Tell me please. I'm new to 3 man mechanics. That was also my second day working 3 man in 35 minute sessions. I've yet to invest in the CCA manual. Some areas treat it that if the BATTED ball goes into the outfield that you will rotate so here you would not. Others treat it that if even the thrown ball does that you rotate, so here you would rotate. You naeed to clarify that. I prefer the former. You aren't moving on the grounder so when the ball is overthrown you and the runner both have about 90' to go to get to third and the runner will win that race most of the time (note that I didnt watch the video to see the ages etc.). Treat this as a slide or reverse rotation play with PU staying home, U1 taking BR into second and U3 taking R1 to third. But you all have to be yelling at each other when the play breaks down. I was taught as soon as the ball hits, shadow R1 until the out is made at 2B. The age was 16-17 and although I CAN beat most of those runners 90', other guys can't so the uniform way is to be headed that way as soon as the ball is hit.

Thanks! As you all said, I noticed my shoulders are not squared to the pitchers on RH batters. I was told that by one of my evaluators as well. I haven't ever seen myself on camera until now and now I know exactly what I need to work on. I'm still a work in progress! Got a long ways to go before I work my way up to the level of some of you guys.

HAHA I learned that this weekend. That's my next umpiring investment. The camp ended today. It went well and I'll be uploading a little plate work video later for criticism. I love getting it. Also, keep your mouth shut and your ears open. They will teach you just about everything you are asking about. I think anytime you call a strike to the side you should keep your head facing towards the infield. That way you can keep your eyes on any potential sh**houses. That should be on any level.
