The CCA manual is pretty darn good. I think the PBUC book also has 3 man mechanics in it as well. PBUC used to make a manual, all there stuff is in an online system.

But then your taking your eyes off the pitcher..and if he balks, what are you gonna say then....lol You seem to have an answer for everything...what's the "proper" way to set up behind F2...I don't touch him either...I step into position with one move. Right foot in the "split" and left foot in the "slot" and straight down from there....LOL I do have an answer.. I have had a lot of training that has helped....lol

Look, if your assoc is cool with then fine... I can tell you this is not taught at any of the Umpire School's, or top College Clinics....it's not really wrong, just doesnt look as good...and if your intent is to move up, they will ask you to fix things like these... Exp.. placing your hand on the catchers back to gauage how far away you are when setting up, I do it just to make sure I'm far enough away, and it is the lighest touch, then my hand goes down, heck sometimes bet I dont touch him. A umpire whom has worked 6 regionals told me to not even do this, as it can cause a argurement later, or get into a pissing contest..all he said is it's the little tiny things that seperate the good umpires.

I don't think that is a good mechanic... I have never heard of anyone teaching this, and if you gi to some areas you will be told to fix it...

Holy crap, I didnt read how many strikes there were...LOL... After I consulted the rest of my crew... We fixed the initial ruling, and took the run off...LOL

A crew in the Minors I believe AA missapplied a rule and it cost them there jobs... It almost hapen in a Big College Conference last season..... just like MidampUmp said.. if it is not a judgement call..i.e.. safe, out, fair, foul.... you should step in..

Just like rich... if it shorthops, I just give the out mechanic when BR is tagged out...if it moves in any direction,all I'm doing is saying no catch..

I have only had good experiences with Honigs.. last week in New Orleans they came to town, and had some really good sales, I went to get another pair of Poly Wools ( which will make 4 pairs each) and they were out of my size, before I could say anything the kid say " don't worry will will ship them too you and give you the same price, it's not your fault we ran out of your size".. 3 days later I had a box on my door...LOL.. at a 2 week umpire clinic I called them on the phone and ordered shoes over the phone, and had good service.. UA I have only bought a few things, yes they are over priced, but to me all things are over priced..LOL I thought UA would sell these pants at the same price or a tad lower to compete with Honigs.. guess i was wrong.

I just dont understand why the price is so high?...I mean $10 per pants higher..Jim your better than that

Is this the mechanic for PU or BU? PU Evans tries to make things hard sometimes.... just like on the check swing mechanic, but the PU thought he went.. evans way.. " yes, stand up and then say "he went" harrys.. "yes he did".. pretty simple to me.. BTW way I went to a Evans Clinic...LOL and I had a partner who went to Evans so I got to learn from him, and Im pretty good buddies with 2 instructors..LOL ...

What Top college clinics are you talking about.. Mid America teaches the way I'm describing.. Music City the same.. International the same Advanced clinic in Houston the same... LOL

All that I'm saying is.. that is there too many signals in a very short time..think about it..swing and miss.. 1. Signal strike 2."no catch" with a safe signal 3. Then maybe a out mechanic if the batter is tagged right there. think 3 different arm mechanics in about 2.38 sec...

Honestly, Mr. Bologna, I've never heard that before. If dofting one's cap is some sort of insult, I'll have to remember that. Now I can see other articles of clothing, for sure. But a hat? I dunno. And Mr. Bologna I hate that crap Are you related to either "I-Zheet M'Drurz" or "Hous Bin Pharteen"? They are my cousins..LOL

But all im saying is giving the safe mechanic, and signaling the third strike, then if the catcher touches the BR right away, your given 3 mechanics in about 2.6 sec... way too much... is all im saying.. Now as for what Harry's is teaching... "No Catch".. and extend your right arm out the side palm open, indicating a no catch... if the ball goes way back to the backstop, no signal is needed.. Harry's is trying to make it simple.. K.I.S.S. Keep it simple stupid..LOL and if you only make the minimum movements you as a Umpire will look better. PBUC is teaching the same way.

If a verbalization is used, I personally would avoid using the word "catch" (see Brandon's post above with Jim Evan's exerpts). "No catch, and 'catch' ...in this particular situation is just a recipe for disaster (IMHO). "No,..ball is on the ground" ... or.... "that hit the ground" ...but using NO CATCH could get sticky if the "no" isn't heard. So, to respond directly to the bold above ... the same reason you don't verbalize "fair" ........ Apples and oranges my friend..LOL 2 totally different scenarios.. I say "No catch" and " he out" on a catch...LOL ok..what do you say it the ball is a line drive to the OF and the OFer tries to make a great catch but it just barely skips in his glove? Do you say " balls on the ground" or "NO CATCH"..

How does the batter know if it is uncaught? is he suppose to look at you and wait for a signal? Just wondering. Maybe because I'm transitioning from football to wrestling, and thus void of baseball thoughts, I can't remember it ever coming up. I have verbalized that the batter was out on a caught 3rd strike or check swing. Ok... if the ball is caught, but the BR thinks it's uncaught, you just say "I got an out/catch" right?.... So why would we not say " No catch" if the ball isnt caught?....LOL
