So what is going through a manager's mind here. The ump is trying to screw me? He missed that on purpose? That XXX is a dixhed? What is the purpose of the arugment here, to persuade, to ridicule, to show-off? I can understand going out and saying "hey, I think you missed that one. What did you see?" But it appears that most managers mission anymore is to be an as$. What point does that serve?

Found it interesting and it dovetails with the unwritten rules thread. Plus a manager admitting to having a player plunked seemed like a good fit for the Prefessional forum in U-E. Guess you don't see it the same way huh.

Weaver comes off looking like a sissy in the video, he waits until he is at his dugout and behind the coaches before he starts screaming. Kinda cowardly really. I like how the pu doesn't really even get in position for the pitch (not in slot). He must have known what was coming.

Agreed, my point was that I can't believe coaches argue stuff like this. Ump gets conflicting signals and is asked to make a call. Looks like HBP, Sounds like Foul, Reaction from batter is Foul .... make a call. From the dugout, the signals could'nt be any better either. From there you probably have... looks like ? Sounds like foul, reaction is foul. (I know you wern't arguing with me, I was joking about that. see - LOL)

Not sure what started the brawl in the video, I think there is more here than meets the eye. (bad blood) Bunting 9-3 in the 5th doesn't seem like it would violate any unwritten rules. From the way the 3rd baseman picks up the bunt, you can tell there is some frustration but I don't think it has to do with the score or bunt. As a coach, I'm trying to get to at least 13-3 before I start pulling punches. (Assuming this is a 9 inning game)

HBP after replay on super slow mo. Not sure how an ump is suppose to tell the diff from wrist to nub of bat on a 90 mph ball. Quick eyes I guess. I'm amazed that people argue stuff like this.

Good point. Don't let a comissioner have a conflict of interest by being a coach as well. (At least not in the same age group) Agreed on all other points as well. No other directors were present.

Are you agreeing w/ the call? No, but I can see how he got to that conclusion. Looks like he is turning to lessen the blow and not turning to get out of the way.

IMO, if he doesn't want to get hit by that pitch, he doesn't. Pretty weak move to get out of the way.

15 yrs ago when I was calling, I had a kid tell me that "I needed to be kicked in the head." I made a scene dumping him. Even ensured that he left the field. My point is that some of these kids need a little humility brought into their lives. If you happen to be the one with the honors, don't sweat it, especially if they earn it.

Hey guys, I was coaching a youth rec league game over the weekend for the league championship. I was the Home Coach and the Visiting Coach happened to be the league commissioner. 1 Umpire and he's 20ish and probably 1st year or 2nd year. (Performed admirably all season long). From the beginning of the game, the vc is chirping about judgement calls. This continues into the 2nd with his assistant coaches chiming in now. I'm growing tired of it as I am sure the ump is. It has gotten to the point where every call is contested verbally. Even the obvious calls are sarcastically contested. Top of 3rd, vt gets burned on a "house rules" call for 3rd out. VC (comissioner) verbally contest the call again, this time claiming the ump doesn't know the rules. Truth of the matter here is that the umpire got it correct to the T. (Was even able to cite the rule). By this point, I've had enough of the bullying attempts from vt and I go to the umpire and tell him that I thought he had made a good call. This completely enrages the vc (comissioner) and he comes running across the field yelling that he doesn't need me congratulating the umpire on every call. My reply to him was "You're the comissioner aren't you. Why do you keep acting like this?" Long story short, we had a brief verbal altercation in the middle of the field. (for which I am embarrassed) Umpire disappears during this event (Probably a good move). My question for you all is should I have said anything to the umpire or just let the vc hang himself? By commenting, the heat came my direction and was redirected from the umpire. Keep in mind that the young ump was unlikely to dump the comissioner (in my opinion). Thanks for any advice.

Hmm, Now that I watch again, do you have a 1st baseman who isn't on the base and a runner who doesn't touch 1st base?

Looks like runner jacked this one up by stepping in front of the bag instead of on the bag. Very difficult for an umpire to determine when runner hit bag on this I would think.

Umpired my way through college 91-96. Worst leagues to call-- T-Ball and anything women's softball. Women will argue with you when they know you're right.

This one looks like they've either: 1. Lost a lot of balls fouled back 2. Had a lawsuit over injuries in the tennis courts Goin with option 2. Probably an intolerable situation to be playing tennis and having fouls balls bouncing around on the court.

Perhaps he got the call correct. Looks like the 3rd baseman pointed immediately after the tag that Reyes has pulled his hand off of the base. On replay it appears that he may have pulled it but hard to tell. If ump called out for pulling hand then good call. If out for ball and tag beating runner then I don't think so.
