Game management is the hardest skill to teach, and how most of us learned it was by going through the same stuff you are.......and eventually having had enough of.....you went to pro school, so your mechanics and your rules knowledge should be great..... if you cant live without this league, then you are going to have to find a method to rein this group in.....often enough, it is the ejection..........I have very few ejections any more, but it is the result of the fact that I WILL EJECT if you cross my line..... once that was common knowledge, my ejections decreased tenfold......and coach/player behavior at my games was better..... If the league wont support you, then you need to find another league...remember there is no shortage of games for good umpires!!...... # 2 guy you will run into from time to time your whole umpiring career...............be professional, don't engage him,. don't feed the troll, don't give him the satisfaction of getting under your skin, (which he clearly has!).....give him a good strong dose of pro school training, no extra consideration, run him when he deserves it, keep your interactions only baseball.....don't try and win him over....don't be friends.......be cordial.....not friendly..... Treat this coach like the neighborhood dog who bit kids when you were young...........don't let him lull you into thinking you are not in his sights...... weak association mates cause all of us problems.....by letting things go, they are just passing it down to you..........get your assoc to have a frank discussion about these leagues......and then have your officers confront the league......if that doesn't work, Start updating your pro school resume and find a new assoc and new leagues.... I'm thinking you wont have any issues bettering the situation for yourself........

your position in the original post was not an offer nor a swing.........this is baseball 101, you need to brush up....dont fall into that myth of squaring up or just leaving a bat over the zone is a strike theory... Merely holding the bat over the zone does not constitute a swing. To be a strike, the batter must make an offer at the pitch.....that would involve moving the bat towards the ball in an effort to hit the pitch.... Now, the judgment of whether or not a batter does so is solely the umpires decision....so in the OP, the Umpire was correct in his call and explanation... Applicable rules.... Fed 7.2.1b In bunting, any movement of the bat toward the ball when the ball is over or near the plate is a strike. The mere holding of the bat in the strike zone is not an attempt to bunt. NCAA/OBR- Official interp- A bat left in the strike zone is not, in itself, an offer at a pitch. However the intent of the batter should declare whether he offered at the pitch. Connect the OBR definition of a bunt to the OBR definition of a strike and you can get the connection to the Official Interpretation. A bunt is a batted ball not swung at but intentionally met with the bat and tapped slowly within the infield. A strike is a. "Struck at by the batter and is missed" The common thread in the 2 is that the bat must be moved by the batter intentionally....

strange, I think i had a similar EJ last night too!......

14U game under the lights with 2 good pitchers throwing..........Home team F1 is a hard throwing man-child who has struck out 15, only 3 of which were called 3K.......Visitor is a soft tossing lefty with a good smooth motion and a curve....top of the seventh, home team leading 2-1...VT down to their last out..... The last batter swings at 3 straight strikes for the final out ...... The batter takes a few steps out of the box and overhand tomahawks his bat into the the dugout face...had any of his teammates been coming out of the the dugout at that time they would have been crushed....... well deserved EJ.......VT coach comes over, fortunately for him, he is in total accord with my EJ......at that time, i was in no mood for a plea bargain.... got some usual questions.... Can I EJ after the game is over?............uh yes..... How many games is he suspended for?...up to the league, but usually 2 it was a lousy way to end what had been a great game. Great pitching by both teams and some defensive gems.........and unfortunately, one petulant child....

Our HS association only does HS games..........those of us who do summer ball are members of summer ball/rec associations.......we do all applicable rules for that governing body......PONY/LL/AM Legion/MSBL etc....pretty much everything we normally do, minus lineup cards........

REC Ball stuff! I worked with a guy who would: yell: Official Game start time....6:03PM!!....Pllllllllllllllllaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Balllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.. then: End of 1 inning......score 1-0!! or: With runners on 1.2 or 1, 2, 3 with less than 2 out.....
