  1. R2, 2outs. BR hits the ball towards F6. R2 is struck by the ball in front of F6 and is declared out on 7.09K (runner struck by batted ball) for 3rd out of inning. How is this suppose to be recorded in the scorebook?
  2. Wait, Knob of bat is foul?
  3. Left handed pitcher 45 degree step to first.
  4. 10-4
  5. That is how we have been playing it up until now. Offense 's job to slow it down by requesting time or stepping out. I just don't like that though. I feel like it's our job to ensure that the game is played fairly. (One team doesn't gain an unfair advantage over the other).and this play feels unfair to me. I was hoping that there would be some rules support for me.
  6. The pitcher makes an illegal pitch; Rule 8.05(e) Comment: A quick pitch is an illegal pitch. Umpires will judge a quick pitch as one delivered before the batter is reasonably set in the batter’s box. With runners on base the penalty is a balk; with no runners on base, it is a ball. The quick pitch is dangerous and should not be permitted. Hey Maven, Hows is my situation an illegal pitch? I think it should be, just not seeing how an illegal pitch applies to a base runner being ready or not.

    Quick Pitch ?

R1, 0 outs. Pitcher goes set, steps off of the rubber and fakes a throw to the base. R1 dives back into the base. Pitcher then quickly gets back on rubber, goes set, and delivers the pitch. Obvious attempt to put the runner down and then deliver a pitch before he is ready to play. To me it is an unfair advantage and not how the game is suppose to be played. I can't find a rules reference on this as Quick Pitch only seems to apply to the batter being ready. Anyone got a rule cite for me? OBR.
  8. Yes, that how our utrip works too. Just this league has written it out in some goofy wording. I'm tempted to cite the rule below and rule that he was not charged with any innings pitched. 7.05.C.5 For all cumulative totals in this rule, one (1) out equals one-third (1/3) of an inning, two (2) outs equals A pitcher that pitches in a game and records no outs is not charged with any innings pitched.
  9. Ouch. I was afraid of this. Jax and Stripes, that's exactly what I am wrestling with. League rule doesn't clarify what an outing is. Does anyone have a reference to USSSA or OBR that clarifies at all?
  10. 10U USSSA with a few Homer rules thrown in. "Pitchers may only pitch 6 innings per week and no more than 5 consecutive innings per game and one day's rest between outings." Not sure what constitutes an outing. If a pitcher pitches to 4 batters and records 0 outs. Bad day, but is that an outing? In my view, it's a poorly worded league rule but now I have to interpret it. Any suggestions on how to handle this?
  11. You don't have to go looking for an EJ. It'll find you!!! Don't be eager and Don't have rabbit ears. It'll be obvious when it's time.
  12. Cheater got caught .
  13. Sorry, Most difficult is T-Ball and women's softball.. The older the boys get, the easier the game. The older the girls get, the more difficult the game.
  14. OBR -- Out. 7.09 (e) It is interference by a batter or a runner when— Any batter or runner who has just been put out, or any runner who has just scored, hinders or impedes any following play being made on a runner. Such runner shall be declared out for the interference of his teammate;
  15. Interesting, I looked at this thing full screen, and I think that the batter flopped. He realized that his bunt sucked and took a dive trying to draw a call. He was clear of the bat and catcher when he just simply flopped.
  16. Hey guys, I'll weigh back in. In my opinion, the runner could have easily ran straight up the baseline as F3 had already cleared. Instead, he basically followed F3 deeper into foul territory and when F3 stopped, he collided with him. Yes, F3 played it wrong. He had time to plant on the bag and throw home. (He didn't) If the runner had collided with F3 on the foul line, I probably have nothing, but he didn't. He veered right and followed F3 for a couple of steps.
  17. Yep, e fits my situation better. I was hung up on F. Thanks! 7.09 (f) If, in the judgment of the umpire, a base runner willfully and deliberately interferes with a batted ball or a fielder in the act of fielding a batted ball with the obvious intent to break up a double play, the ball is dead. The umpire shall call the runner out for interference and also call out the batter-runner because of the action of his
  18. Not a train wreck on the bag. Both players traveled a few steps past the bag a second or so apart. F3 had planted, wheeled and attempted to throw. The collision prevented the execution of the throw. Wondering if I messed up though. Looks like by rule, the only way that I get the 2nd out is if I judge that the BR intended to break up the double play. Else, I should have returned the runner to the last legally occupied. (3rd.) I don't think that there was intent, only screw-up.
  19. R2, 0 outs. BR hits ball to F3 who is playing up. F3 charges the ground ball, retrieves it, and runs to 1st for the out. F3 crosses 1st headed diagonally away from the mound and into foul territory by 2-3 steps. F3 then wheels and attempts to throw home due to R2 attempting to score on play. BR crosses 1st base a few steps later than F3 and instead of running straight up the line and past F3, he veers slightly to foul territory (turns out.) In doing so, he collides with F3 when he plants and wheels to throw. This prevented the throw to home. I called the interference "That's interference" and banged R2. Did I handle this correctly? Any circumstance where you don't have interference on this? (Bang bang collision at 1st?)

    Basic Rules

Love watching a coach's expression when you agree with them and still don't give them their expected call.

    Basic Rules

Not going to happen. Some coaches think that they already know the rules, no need in reading them. I video taped a coach yelling "you must step off to throw to 1st base from the rubber." He took a pretty good tongue lashing from U1. Then proceeded to announce "I know what I am talking about."
  22. Might have to start using Harry Highpants strike 3 mechanic...
  23. Pitcher has exceptional velocity for 12u. 60+ no real ball arc issue that I can see. I was a catcher growing up and I liked to work close too. He was 12-18 inches too close last night. He was in danger of CI. The rule of thumb for catchers (which I don't like) is that they should be close enough to touch the batter. To me that is a little close, but he was a little closer than that. I actually was worried about CI to the head.
  24. Just keep it reasonable. If a kid shouldn't be swinging at it, ball it. They need to learn to take a pitch that is a ball as much as they need to learn to swing at a strike.
  25. I'm assistant coach in my oldest boy's game(12u) last night and he catches. He was working unusually close to the plate last night and we had to move him back a couple of times. (Never any CI situations.) Between innings the plate umpire, (who I have grown to respect this season as he has been very good) calls me over and tells me that our catcher is indeed working way to close and he has stolen a couple of strikes from our pitcher. (huh?) He said something about he can't give the strike when he is in that close. I didn't bother to persue it as he was clearly trying to help us out and we had already noticed ourselves that he was too close. At that point, I was more into fixing the issue than worrying with the message that he was communicating. In hindsight though, what the heck does that mean, my catcher is stealing strikes from my pitcher by working too close? Any ideas?
