They may fool me and get it once--especially freshmen and under--but if that's what they do I'll tell them "you're not getting time to do that again." I would think that any codified use of "stoppage" would apply to when time is called rather than situations where players converse when the ball is live. I don't think anybody here does. That doesn't mean it isn't a conference IF that is how the wording goes. (Wish I could find where I saw that.) Batter walks down the third base line to talk to his coach but didn't ask for time . . . still a conference. One time I did not grant it, and the catcher actually was going out to talk to his pitcher. I did call time when I realized that. Since then, if the catcher asks for time, I ask "Are you going out to talk to your pitcher or just giving signals?" 2

I would say that this scenario there are two outcomes--either I'm calling time, or I'm calling a strike. I still think NFHS will have to tie "conference"--definition pending--with time being called. But then again, they don't think we can accurately adjudicate live balks, so...🤷♂️

Calling time is not a defined element.
Thatsnotyou Posted July 18 Report Posted July 18 If the language somehow ends up being that time needs to be called, and the SS runs to the pitcher, this is simple. Call time yourself. There’s your conference for the inning. 1
