dumbdumb Posted May 17 Report Posted May 17 this is for the younger guys to get help from the veterans. usually pepe la pew does this at 1st base, but here is the new 3rd base version. some comment says pitcher was out of step off's and had to stay on rubber. some say the runner just stayed after a time out. any way here it is. give texas the credit. where's TASO for this one. SeeingEyeDog Posted May 18 Report Posted May 18 Nobody on the field for the defense or the coaching staff knew he was there...if they knew he was there, then F1 would have turned to look for him after missing the tag at the plate. But, he missed the tag on R3 and then relaxed because he was not anticipating more action...and either heard F2's footsteps or someone on the defense alerted him to R2's presence but, it was too late. It would be helpful to have perhaps another :60 of footage from prior to the pitch. Pure speculation on my part but, I suspect there was an offensive conference of some kind just before this pitch over around the 3B coach's box and when they broke R2 simply took up the position we see at the start of the video and the defense simply did not account for him... As a baseball fan, I like this kind of creativity...no doubt others will cry it's a bush league play. As always, all opinions are valid... ~Dawg
The Man in Blue Posted May 18 Report Posted May 18 @dumbdumb, can you clarify what you were saying about this? EDIT: Nevermind, @dumbdumb . . . I figured it out. Skunk in the grass. I thought you were naming a high school. Does Texas limit disengagements? NFHS does not.  If that is the case, @SeeingEyeDog, then it is even worse.  I'll vote bush league.  OK . . . now I am going to step in it. A runner must retouch their base after a foul ball.   What says he must do so following a dead ball for any other reason (e.g., conference)? Are you allowing the runner to take this position before putting the ball back in play? (I am not. I am not finding codification to support me, but no, just no.) Just for fun . . . do you make your runners retouch on a foul ball?  Â
noumpere Posted May 18 Report Posted May 18 9 hours ago, The Man in Blue said:  Just for fun . . . do you make your runners retouch on a foul ball?   The purpose of the rule is so that the offense doesn't get an advantage by having the runner so close to the next base that he can "steal" as soon as the ball is in play AND so that the defense doesn't gain an advantage by having the runner easily out if he is a long way from his base when the ball is put in play. As long as those conditions are met (and that's when the runner is back within his normal lead-off distance) and both teams are "happy" then I don't make the runner retouch. 3
