I'll ask Adam* if he's good to go without a throw (down to 2B). An ultra-high percentage of the time, Adam is.

So this is like my wife asking me if I'm good with going to her parent's house for dinner. "Of course, of course I am" 😉

What if he's not? "Would if I could Adam but we're on a clock. You'll need to get out here earlier next inning"? Or something else?

Adam has options. Forgo the throw, or throw at the risk of starting with a 1-0 count. And that's what I'd communicate.

👆🏼, exactly.

Analogous to your example with your wife, you’re interacting on an instance-by-instance, event-by-event basis, instead of letting it all build up into one big “gotcha!” moment, or “blindside” ‘em.

As cold-hearted as it may be (because I have a soft spot for catchers), I’m going to put the onus on who’s the bent cog in the gears. If this was more systemic, wherein the DT doesn’t prompt somebody to come out and warm up Pete (F1), and Adam is captain casual, or Pete just casually strolls out there, and Charlie (coach) has this attitude that their team’s antics are sacrosanct (ie. 💩 doesn’t stink), then I’m going to address it up front, and penalize if warranted. If I’ve got Blake out there, warming up Pete, and Charlie’s got a good, skipper-of-the-ship attitude, but yet Adam’s got a… challenge of getting out in a timely manner, then I’ll (again) interact regarding that.

Adam can also use a defense conference.

Next half, HC is complaining that we are the "only" crew enforcing the clock and "NO ONE" has not let his guy throw down.

THE CLOCK IS IN 2 SPOTS AND AT LEAST 2 FEET TALL!!! Rule has been around for 4 years now. Figure it out.

Figure it out?  Easy. Unverifiable information as in, "You are the only umpire who has called that all season," etc. etc.  etc. Response:  "That may be true coach, but this is what we are doing today."
