Anyone read the article in this month's Referee regarding a basketball official getting booted from the Horizon League?

Is it really that tight where an official can miss a couple of calls and the result is getting completely canned from the league?

Without knowing anything about the situation other than what was posted here, I'd bet it wasn't calls that were the problem, but a game management situation.

Yeah, there's the mention of a suspension of a Coach Kampe.

I hunted around. Couldn't find video or much at all beyond a "phantom foul call".

Would love to see a video clip or the full game film.

Good find @Replacematt. I'm not 100% there wasn't elbow to elbow contact. In isolation, weird one to get fired over.

There must have been more history with that official. Nobody gets fired for one bad call.

There were some comments in the thread implying that "He screwed Oakland" last year too.

I wonder why the coach was suspended? Comments to the media?

Given the wording in the release, I would say the two had a meeting of the minds in which both crossed a line.

oh come on grayhawk, just fire every official if they miss a call, don't worry, to have enough officials with the big shortage, somebody else will pick you up somewhere else, and every official at any level throughout the US will eventually get to be an official in the Horizon Conference, get fired, get hired, get fired, get hired again and again forever. isnt that how everyone says it is where they work, if you make a mistake you get fired. revolving door principle.

heck, they are even advertising in some places for people to become officials at games. or maybe that was some april fools joke i saw. oh, just go call 1-800-john lecrone in the horizon league and ask what happened.

i am with you though, there should be an inside story to this, or maybe the new look is, you miss you get sacked. somebody has to boldly put new ideas into effect, and show the results of that new idea.
