In Indiana, all assigners must be approved by the state and can charge "reasonable" fees to schools, conferences, and officials. The state is nice enough to publish fees that each assigner charges. Looking through that list, official's fees range from $0 - $35 a season. School fees go up to $1,000, though I don't know if the school charge is by level, sport, or a flat yearly fee.

@DevildogUmp, you reminded me of a recent change that I noticed in Illinois . . .

The state association has long been adamant that we are independent contractors and has stayed away from assigning anything except their state tournament series.  However, this past year they began listing "assignors" in each sports' officials' section.  There is no information on how one gets listed or becomes an unofficially officially sanctioned assignor.

can we now work on a guaranteed flat fee on a 2 hour time limit game of $15, with a guaranteed $50 tip.

i would like 2 games per day or 700 games total for this year please, or is that too much to ask.
