Rule 5-1-1-j covers an immediate dead ball if an infielder intentionally drops a fair fly, fair line drive or a fair bunt in flight with at least first base occupied and with less than two outs.  Question:  Would this rule also be in effect in an infield fly situation?  It would seem to me the rule would not be in effect on an IFF because the runners are already protected by the IFF rule.  Is there a rule reference for this?

Doesn't your rule book have this right under 5-1-1-j?

"EXCEPTION: Infield-fly rule (2-19)"

They did forget to put that exception in one year way back in the 2000s.

Sometimes, when I use my book a lot, I find that I accidentally knock some rules loose and they fall out.

Which can now become...

"Coach, in my judgement the runner is out. Normally, I can cite you the specific rule on all of my adjudications but, you know I study my rule books so intensely that I accidentally knock some rules loose and they do fall out from time to time. But, I assure you the runner is out here and if you continue, you will be ejected...mmmmmmmm'k?"
