Has anyone stayed in the Holiday Inn located right at the complex?  I've reserved a room there, but the reviews are not good - especially concerning water pressure, atmosphere, breakfast, etc.  For $200+ a night I expect closer to excellent amenities and reviews.

For closer to $150, I can stay in much nicer hotels (Marriott, Hilton, Drury Inn, etc) less than 15 minutes away at the airport.  I will have a car, so transportation is not an issue.  It looks like much better food options up near the airport too.

If you don't want to put anything negative out "over the air" here, then please feel free to IM me with your feedback.  I found it a little odd that the actual camp website didn't recommend a hotel, now I'm wondering if that was intentional or not.

One other question, if I schedule a flight home for 3pm on Sunday - is that too early?  I see it's live games on Sat with breakout sessions and an evening session... but Sunday just says live games with no sessions.  I'm assuming most go back home on Sunday to be back at their jobs on Monday morning, right?   Or do I need to plan for another night there and fly back Monday?

I'm pretty sure that's where I stayed when I went and it was fine.

Maybe not though....so for whatever that's worth! 🙂

Excellent feedback! Thank you. That makes me more comfortable. I’m a planner and I’ve got everything ready to go, but started to second-guess it when I found those reviews.

Thanks again! I’m really looking forward to coming and learning!

My son played at Homefield and Creekside this weekend and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at Creekside. The room was very nice. No issues. That said, if the rate the weekend of the clinic is $200+ a night, I’d recommend staying at the Drury Inn or Sonesta Suites (former Courtyard by Marriott) - they are next to each other, near the airport and about 10 minutes to the Creekside complex.

I will second saving some coin on your hotel. You will only be at your hotel to sleep.

The last two times I’ve been to the Advanced 3-Umpire clinic, I have been at the ball park from start to finish Friday and Saturday. Between video/classroom work observing other crews, listening to their conversations with instructors and networking with other umpires, there isn’t much downtime.

You will learn a lot by listening to what is being said to the other crews by the instructors.

My 3 nights at HI Creekside would be $685 after taxes versus around $450 for Sonesta... I'm thinking hard of changing my hotel as that's $250 back in my pocket.

What did you do on the last day of the camp?  If check-out is at 11, I'm not sure where I'll clean up before my flight at 3pm back to Columbus, OH.  Should I get another night and come back Monday? I don't want to waste instruction time unless the majority of guys start to head home around then too.

I believe your camp is at Creekside. They have two showers in the umpire locker room which are clean and available. Sunday, it is pretty much do your innings, say your good-byes/thank you and head home.

The bonus of having your room right there, would be the ability to just run to your room for food and drink very quickly.

On Sunday, you'll be assigned innings and then leave. There is no class/cage instruction, just game evaluations. We will use Creekside all weekend. Homefield is nice, but not conducive to a clinic environment. Creekside does have a shower after your games...grab a couple pool towels from the hotel ;). Don't stay an extra day. We will send an email a few weeks before the clinic asking for travel itineraries/special requests. Just let us know your flight time and we will make sure you're done and to the airport in plenty of time. In fact, a few crews actually get all of their games for the weekend finished Saturday night and do not work on Sunday. So we have many ways to get you to the airport for your flight.
