Can't figure this one out!

This picture is from the CWS/NYY game on Thursday 6/8. It is the bottom of the 9th of game 1.

The umpire starts signaling before the runner reaches the base SAFE. 

The call was out for the start of a game ending double-play. NYY asked for a review and the out was confirmed.

Why is the umpire signaling safe? And why was that safe signal ignored?

Really trying to understand the pertinent mechanics.

Was there a catch/no catch? Interference/no interference preceding this? 

Sometimes that "safe" mechanic also means "that's nothing"

Was there something before this that he is signaling on?  Example: short-hop line drive, batted ball was close to the runner, or a missed tag attempt.

I found the play. It looks like it's a "that's nothing" for R1 getting hit by a batted ball.

Wait … different play!  I stopped at that first one and wasn’t paying attention that @LMSANS said it was a double play ball.
