HP Umpire Adam Beck ejected Brewers manager Craig Counsell and SS Willy Adames (time out request/Scherzer rule no-call and automatic strike [pitch clock violation]; QOCY) in the bottom of the 6th inning of the #Angels-#Brewers game. With two out and none on, Brewers batter Willy Adames, with a 1-0 count, claimed Angels pitcher Jaime Barria had violated the Max Scherzer rule pertaining to pitchers prohibited from coming set prior to the batter in the box and alert to the pitcher. Replays indicate Barria was pitching from Windup and not Set Position, and thus, was not subject to the Scherzer rule prohibiting a pitcher from coming set (since one does not "come set" in Windup Position although the hands to physically meet prior to delivery). A pitch clock violation was subsequently issued while Adames was arguing the prior pitch's no-call, resulting in an automatic strike added to the count when Adames was not in the batter's box and alert to the pitcher for the ensuing 1-1 pitch. By rule, this is the proper enforcement, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejections, the Brewers were leading, 7-1. The Brewers ultimately won the contest, 7-5.

These are the 33rd and 34th ejection reports of the 2023 MLB regular season.
This is the 17th manager ejection of 2023.
This is the 13th player ejection of 2023. Ejection tally: 17 Managers, 13 Players, 4 Coaches.
This is Milwaukee's 1/2nd ejection of 2023, T-1st in the NL Central (MIL, STL 2; CIN, PIT 1; CHC 0).
This is Craig Counsell's 1st ejection since Aug 4, 2022 (Jerry Meals; QOC = Y [Balls/Strikes]).
This is Willy Adames' first career MLB ejection.
This is Adam Beck's 2/3rd ejection of 2023, 1st since April 19 (Bryan Reynolds; QOC = N [Balls/Strikes]).

I assumed the rule mix up we were going to discuss was him stepping out of the box during the pitch.  This was a heated debate in another thread, so I was looking forward to further evidence.

OBR = hold the zone, call the pitch, 5.04.b(2)

NFHS = regardless of pitch location, strike (penalty), 7-3-1

So the confusion we are talking about was the batter?  I guess he gave the "watching" sign and a quick bringing of the hands together, but I didn't see much else indicating that was what he was taking issue with.

I L-O-V-E the second strike for not being ready because he was choosing to spend the time running his mouth.

Maybe that is a solution for baseball as a preemptive, to an ejection, like the 2 technicals in hoops or a yellow card first in some sports, as people always say baseball goes right into ejection mode without other discipline first. Call a strike on the batter or a ball on the pitcher, or 2 strikes/2 balls if they want it more punitive, or a batter gets an automatic walk or pitcher automatic k.

7-3-1...always a good time when we have to enforce that. I've lost count of how many I've had but, I have only ever had ONE that was a meatball, nut-cutter that even Mrs. Colavito could see was a strike 5 blocks away. Invariably, when a HS batter steps out without time being granted, it's a pitch in the dirt or nearly over the screen and so the static goes like this...

Strike? WTH, Blue he asked for timeout! Strike? WTH, Blue that was in the dirt!, etc...

And God help you if you don't call that a strike...

Static on correct calls...sucks.
