Anyone know if utrip is using the pitch clock since it's a new obr thing? I probably should know before I do any ball this year, if I do any.

Hey guys come on, someone has an answer. I know it's been a minute since I've been on but an answer would be helpful.

I don’t know, but I would venture to say no. At most levels of USSSA I doubt they’re worried about that. Most of the U-Trip I used to do had some modifications anyways, so I’d imagine that would be one (leaving it out).

I could be totally wrong though.

I would doubt it, and even if they do use some sort of pitch clock, there will have to be modifications that they would have to brief you on. No on field umpire can possibly keep track of all the different MLB time limits/intervals  AND officiate a game. NCAA, where umpires do keep time is simply 20 seconds. Nothing between batters, or different times with runners on, etc.

T– I wouldn’t know how USSSA is going to incorporate the MLB pitch clock into their games. I haven’t worked a USSSA game in 4 years (just like I haven’t had Burger King in nearly 10 years), and while I’m (still) in Arizona (for now), I won’t be doing any. The MLB pitch clock is rather complex, and is way over the heads of amateur umpires. To be fair, the pros don’t even manage the MLB pitch clock. They enforce it, certainly. USSSA already has time-limited games; if they were to implement the pitch clock, I think baseball play would absolutely disintegrate.

This question was asked of my USSSA league, and because we have time limits for games, we don't use a pitch clock. However, keeping the game moving and not allowing for the pitcher or batter to delay the game is still a good part of game management.
