A friend of mine retired from umpiring and moved to Texas. He donated all of his old umpire equipment, etc. We gave most of it away to some newer umpires in our LL district. One of the things that was left behind was these old school cassette tapes from NASO. I'd never seen anything like this. It has some recordings of Doug Harvey and Carl Childress, as well as some other guys I've never heard of.

Just wanted to share as I thought it was kind of cool. I'm fighting the urge to be out on my front porch in my dress coveralls screaming at the neighborhood kids, "You kids don't know how easy you have it. We didn't have computers, or the internet. We had to learn from books, and listen to recordings!"

If anyone wants them, I'll be happy to ship them out on your dime. Otherwise, I'm just going to chuck them. PM me if interested.

That is exactly the kind of stuff I don't need ... but yet I want them for some strange reason ...

Sometimes I just like being "that guy."

Can you get these on 8-track?

Seriously though ... how long are they?  (Damnit, TMIB, don't do it ...)

I don't know how long they are. It doesn't say anywhere on the tape, and I haven't listened to them either.

They may not have ever been played. They all look like original condition.

Elbeco’s and Heather Greys.

Ya know, I find more purposefulness and effectiveness in listening to these recordings than sitting in a f*€king meeting room and reciting stuff, VERBATIM, off a jam-packed PowerPoint slide!!!

<looks at that second photo>

Holy $h!t!!! That’s one of the guys in our association here! I gotta notify him!!

Tapes are gone to a good home. MadMax put me in touch with one of the guys that his name is on a couple of the tapes.

I talked with him yesterday and mailed them out today. He said those tapes are around 30 years old. He wants to digitize them, so maybe they'll be available in a different form someday.

Shout out to @MadMax Thank you!

Glad to hear that ... I almost asked you for a shipping quote, but when I saw he posted that, I was hoping that is what would happen.  😁

Just got some Gerry Davis VHS training tapes from the guy I sent the cassette tapes to. I got to do a few games last year with Gerry Davis in preparation for my LL regional, so it's pretty cool these ended up in my possession. I'll make sure they go to good use.

VHS and cassette tapes? Just a bastion of technology at my house!
