It's only a silly question if they already did it.

My parents used to run a computer repair shop when I was young. This question, along with "is it plugged in", were always the first two questions my father would ask someone that would call complaining that their computer wouldn't start/turn on.

The other one that always floored him was people complaining about "the cup holder" no longer functioning properly. And yes... this was the CD-ROM player that people would think is a cup holder, break it, or spill stuff on it and gum it up.

I was inserting (poorly) a general joke about "reboot" troubleshooting (one step before "impact maintenance"). Sorry if I came across as I was being unkind to you.

 

Oh, no, I didn't think you were being unkind. It just so happened you were making a joke about something that often happens with these timers -- maybe not realizing how frequent the problem can be! An "oh, too true!" moment.
