And that's why (maybe) that we're locked out. That's garbage. Seems like they're attempting to skirt work-comp or something.

There's so much built up animosity between these two groups.   Its been festering for years. Stuff like this shows just how much.. I'm very pessimistic about them reaching an agreement any time soon.

As much as I love the game. I support the players. Hold out as long as they need.

I think both sides have some valid arguments. It's the process that ticks me off the most. They met for less than an hour today......

Lock them a room and don't let them out until you have an agreement. As I've been told on the diamond on occasion....."FIGURE IT OUT!"

Yankees team value per forbes 4.58 billion April 2019, 5 billion April 2020, 5.25 billion April 2021. seems to be going north

for the milb umpires. nice to see at the AAA level ($150 per game if they work 30 games a month like the old days, or maybe lesser games in today's environment) they will finally pass the highest high school fee per game in Connecticut.

Agreed.  Good Gawd,  those guys are there at spring training at the behest of MLB.  Other than pinching pennies I don't get it.  Those kids might get paid a little more in spring training but get paid horribly during the regular season.

and how much is denise martin being paid for this gig after being hired by MLB from NERA Economic Consulting to frame this argument for MLB ooh, maybe $775 per hour which would work out to 1,612,000 for a 2080 hour work year. to make these arguments below.

and this was what Richie Phillips was fighting for in the old days. and yes, everyone knows what happened to Richie.

he thought Doug Harvey should get more than a bench warmer that year the players minimum went from 100,000 to 110,000 during one of the players cycles on the CBA and the new umpire CBA was coming up back in the 90's.. Richie felt when the umpire contract came up that a senior umpire like Doug Harvey should make more than a 162 game bench warmer. he ended up with a contract that paid Doug 175,000 and that is pretty much what he fought for his whole time representing them. so, you see where they would be currently be had that been allowed to hold to this day. about 60% more for senior umpire than the player minimum and 40% less than the player minimum for a starting umpire, scaled on up over time, and also to always make them in the top 1% of all wage earners no matter what. oh well. and a lot of people here are not satisfied with the pro umpire of amateur player fees.

so here is the comparison's article for the players today, for what they are fighting for, the guys at the bottom since baseball is trying to get rid of everyone by the end of their 3rd year and keeping them at the minimums and releasing them before bigger contracts can be obtained. enjoy some of the stats (or is that the old word for the more prestigious or hoity toity word that puts much more money into a  person's pocket by calling it analytics) and thoughts mentioned.

little bit on player contract comparisons below--and think of how many more games players have always played than the other sports that play 80 games or less, and have less revenues 5 billion versus double that or more for baseball.yankees worth 5.25 billion themselves and the new forbes comparison has not come out yet on team worth for 2022.

just adding a different point of view, as i think think those were the words used by jimmy buffett during one of his stories used to pre-empt one of his songs.
