Randy Arozarena steals home in ALDS Game 1 (mlb.com)

I think I have CI in NCAA and FED but there is JR OBR cite that when the batter abandons there is no CI. But did the catcher miss getting a strike 3 call by catching the pitch early? It looks like it might have been a strike if received normally.

I've had the benefit of watching this a few times and I believe the pitcher stepped off before throwing home.

Yes, upon further review F1 stepped off.

BUT...this is still an excellent training video for "What if...he didn't step off?" And maybe for the purpose of learning & discussion, maybe we continue down the path you began...because THAT is the valuable piece.

For example, does the fact that Batter bailed out of box factor in? Or does CI take precedence?

If so, what if there was no CI but batter bailed out of box? Is that an automatic strike?

Exactly...that's what we're going to learn here! Great questions & things to consider!

Did F1 start to lift his free foot before stepping off? It looks that way to me, but I'm not sure if that's part of the pitcher's normal motion while coming set.

Didn't I reach that conclusion above after viewing @johnnyg08s post? But on another note there was no balk for stepping off while coming set which happens in MLB. I think his hands already being together when he stepped off allowed the umps to forgo calling a balk.
