I'll guess late 90's/early 2000's - probably closer to early 2000's.

Maybe even later. I can swear I have seen this CP, or one like it, last time I looked at the +POS website.

EDIT: Just went to the +POS website to see if I was right. I was not.

But OH MAN! WHAT A MESS! You have to scroll through basically a page of broken code before you get to anything on each page you click on. Then there is menu and pop up ads (for +POS) in the middle of the page and you have to scroll past those as well.

I've seen this exact CP with Champion, Pro Nine and Honig's on the chest.  You can still get the Champion and Pro Nine versions.  I'm pretty sure Champro has this one too.  It's actually a decent CP, but not sure I'd weAr it in HS Varsity... but I've had partners using it at that level.

Yeah, I went back and looked the other day.  It's the e-version of an old barn tilting over and about ready to collapse.

It is the old... old... OLD version of the Honigs K1. I wouldn't wear the thing walking down the street. Let alone on a baseball field! I bought a K1 when I first decided to go hard shell. Wore it for about a season. Sold it to a softball umpire and bought a WV Gold.

That tells you that the same factory in China makes it and just stamp the brand logo of whoever purchase the lot.

This is the same with the All-American and V.Sport, same plastic density and same inner pad just a different logo.

Today's version plastic is not as dense as the old one so the shoulder caps can be cracked when is hit by a foul ball.

You know, this probably deserves its own thread...

Even the most modern, hi-tech plastics will degrade from sun and heat. Kids car seats have an expiration date on them. I actually called the manufacturer to ask why a car seat would have an expiration date and they said the plastics will degrade and the seat could become compromised. (I've heard some parents say it's a marketing ploy to sell more seats...maybe, I really don't know.)

But, the application of this thinking to our shinguards and chest protectors is worth considering. We have heard manufacturers of masks say the pads should be replaced annually to insure best protection (again, possible ploy...I don't know). How long do we think a chest protector or shin guards' plastics are good for? Obviously, if something breaks, we repair it or replace it. I have upgraded to new gear as improved protection, comfort and or fit have become available but, I have never gotten rid of a chest protector or shin guards because I felt the materials had become degraded or compromised. How equipment is cared for and stored is no doubt a factor, too.
